Winter. It was almost fitting, the frost on the pavement giving sound to each step as the boots gave audible cracks with each step. The sound reminded her of chewing. She found herself making her way into an alleyway to throw away some trash she had come across on the ground. It had only been a few plastic bags but she had a habit of cleaning messes that weren't really hers. It was a habit, even in her house with Jen. The sound of crunching stopped as she lifted the lid to the large trash bin and tossed the scraps of plastic in. Almost immediately a chorus of crunching approached and she turned to see a few people enter the mouth of the alleyway.

"Excuse me," She said as she started to make her way past them. One of them caught her eyes and they locked for a second before he grinned and she felt a hand grip into her shoulder. "Please remove your hand, I don't like to be touched without permission."

"It's dangerous for a little girl to go out by yourself like this. Especially if you happen to be carrying a purse like that. Brings attention, why don't you let us hold onto it for safe keeping?"

She looked down to the hand, realizing that he had obviously been deaf or was ignoring her on purpose. She debated her scythe but reaching into her purse would likely be met with hostility and if she could avoid that she would at all costs. "I'm perfectly capable of defending myself thank you very much. Now, the hand?" She locked eyes again, raising her head so that the light caught her orange hues.

"It's a fuckin' freak! I've dealt with your kind before, no big deal. Give us the purse sweetheart," the man pulled out a switchblade, the knife extending into view as she grinned. The other two began to laugh a bit. The one grabbing her was big, muscly. The other two were wiry in comparison. One had an athletic build but did not have quite the definition of the one who was grabbing her shoulder. She could tell that she had two immediate concerns. The knife and the hand on her shoulder. Which one was more pressing was hard to determine but conveniently both belonged to the same person.

She felt energy course through her body as her elbow swung and jabbed the guy in the solar plexus. His hand let go immediately as he was thrown back into a wall, his hands holding his abdomen as he gasped for breath. "The fuck!" He breathed out with strained effort as the other two had looks of horror on their face.

"The next time you lay a hand on me, you'll lose it."

Shade huffed to herself, watching the plume of breath rise into the night sky. Geez it was cold. That really was one of the things she didn't like that much about the city, how extreme the temperatures could get. And as cold as it was now, it was bound to get colder.

Shaking her head, she started down the street, hunching her shoulders around her ears. She really needed to just say screw it and get a winter hat instead of hoping her hair and popped coat collar would keep her ears warm enough. But... She paused and looked to the side, peering down an alley. If she did have a hat, it probably would have muffled the soft sounds that had caught her attention.

Well, it wasn't like she couldn't defend herself, mostly healed arm or no, so Shade started into the darker area, stepping as lightly as she could on the frost. If there was something going on that shouldn't be, then she didn't want to announce her presence. And she didn't want to interrupt Oblivion business anyway so... Yes, being quiet was the best way to go.

Stepping into the intersection, she glanced to the side and took in the tableau. A trio of thugs and a small girl. And judging by the man propping up the wall, the girl could handle herself. Sparing a moment to wonder if the girl was a harbinger or just skilled, Shade slipped her gloved hands into her pockets and settled in to watch, her own power pulled up to bubble under the surface. Those men weren't with Oblivion so she had no problem knocking them around if it turned out the girl couldn't deal with them.
