She'd decided she was going to do it. She was going to find him no matter what. She wasn't going to back out even if things got to the worst of the worst. That is what she promised; what she swore. To herself.

And no, it wasn't just a 'dream' or a 'goal'. It wasn't something that was strove for but had no justification of whether or not it could be achieved. She would make it happen and that was final. But before she set off on her journey, there were a few things she had to do.

Leah walked down the path to her favorite hair salon and maybe her favorite place in the whole district: the Premier hair salon. She probably could have gotten there by now if she hadn't stopped to take pictures of the scenery every thirty seconds. The blondie stopped snapping photos with her phone so she could check the time on it. 3:56. The appointed time was 4:00. She'd better hurry. Leah tossed her phone into her tote- she would take more pictures on the way back- and ran the rest of the way.

The door of the salon swung open. Leah stopped it just before it hit the wall, in case the glass decided to break again. She stepped into the building. "Hi! I made an appointment this time."

[Kota] One Step at a Time [Leah] Empty Re: [Kota] One Step at a Time [Leah]

Other than being an utterly boring and drab Thursday, the day was pretty ordinary. Same old customers in for a trim and the occasional people that wanted a smashing new do. Though Kota stayed in the back room half the day since most customers relied on Caius for the perfect cut. Not that he himself was bad. Just not as good, or as popular, as his boss.

Yesterday, though, someone had called in and made an appointed with him personally. Caius wouldn't say who, only winking in his usual cheerful manner and telling him that he'd see tomorrow. Tomorrow was here and there was still nobody. It was almost four o'clock. He didn't even know what time the person was coming in (Caius was so kind to not inform him). It could be Danae, seeing as how she normally didn't get off work until the late afternoons.

Swirling on the turning high stool, the blonde flipped open his phone, intending to text Danae and ask if she was coming. Until the glass door swung open so freaking hard that it would've broken had the person swinging it open did not stop it. And obviously the only person to ever succeed in breaking that door while entering was a certain peppy girl that could rival Caius in terms of glee.

"Hi! I made an appointment this time."

He snorted and hopped off the stool. "Yeah and you didn't shatter the door this time. Why'd you make an appointment with Caius anyway? You could have just called or texted me." Assuming she still had her phone intact.

Glancing her up and down, he saw why she came in for a cut. Her hair was well past her lower back now, almost to down to her behind. It looked a little frayed from running he assumed. The rest of Leah's clothing was the usual barf of parrot colors. Checkered circle scarf, yellow jacket, striped arm warmers, white leggings with parrot feather print all topped off with neon red high top sneakers. He constantly wondered how she would make those color combos work in an orderly fashion.

"Well, take a seat and I'll fix up your hair. I'm assuming you still want it a good length?"

"Actually, I was going to text you," Leah said. "But then I was thinking about something and that led to me thinking about something else and then that made me think about something else and then it just suddenly occurred me that I never made a proper appointment here. So I was like, 'why not?' and made one." Typical Leah with her endless chatter. Not to mention that it was all said quickly and in one breath.

"Well, take a seat and I'll fix up your hair. I'm assuming you still want it a good length?"

"Yup." Leah pulled off her checkered scarf, folded it, and stuffed it into her tote bag. She took a seat and drew in some air so she could launch into another string of chatter.

"At first, I planned to come on Tuesday. But it was raining so hard and it would have been impossible to walk all the way here. I did try to get to the grocery store across the street from my house, though. And can you believe this? The rain broke my umbrella! Well, sort of. I opened my umbrella and the heavy rain knocked it out of my hands and it landed on the street and got run over by a truck. Big disaster. Then I got really soaked in like the two seconds I was in the rain without an umbrella. That's probably why I got a cold the next day. So the rain broke my umbrella and my no-illnesses-for-a-year goal. I was only three more weeks off, too!"

"So how has your week been?" he asked as she sat down. Big mistake. The girl's mouth started running at eighty miles per hour. It was like he set off a bomb and suddenly he was caught up in the explosion.

Half paying attention to her long chatter, he threw a spotted smock over her lithe body and clipped up a good portion her volumous hair. Brushing out the remaining locks, he took the time to feel out her hair. As always the texture and silkiness was wonderful, like the softness you get from actually using real shampoo and conditioner and not bar soap. Towards the ends, though, it was minutely rougher. He had to give her credit for taking such good care of her hair especially when it was this freakishly long. It was twice as long as Xi's, if not more.

Setting the brush down, he started to clip away at the ends, pinning more hair with bobby pins as he went. "Is that so? You're never sick." Guess now he knew the reason why he had never seen the girl let out so much as a cough. "If you had told me I woulda gone and visited you. And brought along Carol too," he said, referring to Caius's gerbil. She was currently sleeping in her cage on the back counter.

Kota could've gone to see Leah when he took Xi to that playground. It was her parents' work building after all. Judging from what she said, the time period kinda matched up. Speaking of Xi, he hadn't seen her in a while. She didn't swing by yet this week. He blinked, mentally kicking himself. Xi's not obligated to come see me. She's got her own job to work at. Speeding his cuts back up, he listened as Leah chirped on and on.

“Well, I kind of wasn’t thinking straight yesterday. Maybe ‘cause I haven’t had a cold in so long. Anyways, I tried to find my phone. Like, I got out of bed and dug around in my bag. It wasn’t in my tote so I searched everywhere in my room and it wasn’t there! There I looked through every single room upstairs and it wasn’t anywhere.” The girl paused to take a breath.

“So then I went downstairs and looked through every single room there and I still couldn’t find it! Oh, by the way, our home phone broke a few days ago and we haven’t gotten it fixed yet so I couldn’t use it. Okay, I probably wasted like two hours of the time I was supposed to be sleeping when I finally gave up and went back to bed.” Leah seemed to have stopped talking, but then she started up again.

”When I woke up later in the afternoon, I was feeling better. I was getting a candy from my bag and guess what I found in there?! My phone! It was right where I usually put it, too! And after that I made the appointment.”

Once she shut her mouth, Leah finally saw in the mirror that Kota’s facial expression faltered slightly. “Are you okay, Kota? Something up?” she asked. She waited a few moments.

Leave it to Leah to lose her phone in her bag.

“Are you okay, Kota? Something up?" He blinked, but didn't pause in his work. Had she caught his moment of...whatever the hell you call it? Oh wait. Duh, there was a huge ass mirror right in front of them.

"Nah, don't worry about it." Come to think of it Leah never met Xiana before huh? They always seemed to miss each other; whenever one is coming over, the other leaves shortly before. It was as if each meeting was planned. He wouldn't put it past the Leah to do so, but Xi? Not so much.

The phone in Kota's pocket buzzed with a text message. Transferring the bobby pins from his hand to his mouth he flipped open his phone to see a message from Danae.

"Coming over now (:" Ooookay. Several seconds later the glass door chimed open. She walked in wearing a bucket hat, huge sunglasses that covered half her face, and a scarf covering the other half. The rest of the outfit consisted of a semi-fit t-shirt, skinny jeans, and scuffed gray Converse all in pale colors. Her normally Alice blue hair was a funky auburn.

Behind the glass, Kota could see a black car pull out of the parking lot, Danae's manager waving at him. Kota lifted his hand to wave back before his friend greeted him, taking off the extra clothing. "'Sup shortstuff. You know I'd totally love ya to death it if ya fixed up my hair when you're done with hers. The stylist at the shoot fucked it up with this nasty color." She scowled at the strands as if they were streaked with goo. "I ended up having to wear a wig for the entire shoot." If one listened closely, Danae's voice had a slight huskiness. It wasn't that obvious unless a person paid attention, but Kota always heard it.

"Yeah, yeah and I'd love you to death if you didn't call me 'shortstuff'. You're only four inches taller." Danae snorted and flopped into the empty chair next the pair.

"Nope, too bad you'll always be shortstuff to me whether ya like it or not. Hey Leah, how's it going?"

Post by Leah Sun Oct 21, 2012 4:28 am

Leah heard Kota’s cell phone buzz. As he checked it, Leah turned around and leaned over the chair to see the message. It was Danae saying that she was coming over. The smiley face made Leah giggle a bit for some reason.

An instant later, a person came into the salon. Leah's first thought was that it was Danae (she couldn't be absolutely sure due to the glasses and scarf). One look at the hair, which was a peculiar shade of auburn, and she was kind of doubting it. But sure enough, the sunglasses were taken off and Danae's gray eyes were revealed. Then came off the  scarf as well, showing the rest of the model's face. Leah was about to ask what the new hair color was about but Danae began speaking to Kota first.

"Sup, shortstuff."

Leah laughed at the nickname. She completely knew that Kota hated being called 'short' and that 'shortstuff' was no exception. Danae knew that too, making it even more hilarious. Leah would probably tease Kota about his height herself if she weren't so petite as well.

"You know I'd totally love ya to death it if ya fixed up my hair when you're done with hers. The stylist at the shoot fucked it up with this nasty color. I ended up having to wear a wig for the entire shoot."

Well, that explained it. Leah's thoughts wandered off to her own hair. She had never actually used any permanent or long-lasting dye on her blonde locks before. She used those wash off spray ones every once and a while and had tried those one week kinds. But in fear that the color wouldn't look good with her entire wardrobe, Leah never went through with dyeing her hair. With the diverse colors of her clothes, no exotic hair color (yes, like her clothes, Leah would only dye her hair parrot colors) could look good with all of them.

"Hey Leah. How's it going?"

"Going good," she chimed. "And now that I think about it..." She stood up and looked at Kota. "He and I are the same height so does that make me shortstuff too?" Leah asked, grinning.

"Nah, you're a chick so it's perfectly fine," she said ruffling her hair.

Kota snatched his friends hand and pushed Leah back onto the seat."I wasn't done with you yet. Danae, don't touch her hair." He scowled as he removed the clips and smoothed out the golden locks. He hated it when people messed with his work, especially hair. Now he had to find where he left off.

"Aw, don't get all snappy with me. Wasn't my fault she stood up." Kota sighed. Danae would never back down from a verbal challenge. She was quite mouthy herself despite appearances. Though she may not like to admit it, sometimes she was a little too sarcastic and crass. She didn't grow up under the best circumstances and it was hard to get rid of habit. More or less like Kota's habit to slip with his own accent every now and then.

"Just behave yourself for another five minutes." Danae 'mhm'-ed in response, playing with the ends of her now-auburn hair.

True to his word, Kota finished up Leah's hair and neatly bunned it up on the top of her head. "So what's the occasion?" he asked, removing the smock and reaching for the broom. He let her answer as he swept the hair into a dust pan and deposited it into the trash can. Danae watched the blonde too as she was gestured to take a seat at the sink.

"Nah, you're a chick so it's perfectly fine." As her blonde locks were tousled, Leah laughed at Danae’s reasoning. Kota, however, was not amused. He shoved Leah onto the seat and scolded Danae. From the mirror, Leah saw him taking out the now out of place clips from her hair with a frown on his face. Someone was grumpy.

"Aw, don't get all snappy with me. Wasn't my fault she stood up." And that was Danae again. Leah had always wondered about Danae. It was just so confusing how she had the body of a guy, the mind of a girl, and the personality of a guy. There was nothing wrong with the first two, but the last part is what made things hard to understand. Like, if some random person just saw Danae, they would probably think that she was a beautiful girl. Well, duh, she has career as a model. If someone talked to her, they would think tomboy. Anyone close enough to Danae would know that she talks like a guy. The more Leah thought about it, the more confused she got.

Leah stopped thinking about it just as Kota finished her hair. The bun was perfect, which was no surprise. “CINNABUN!” she sang cheerfully. That was her nickname for topknot buns.

"So what's the occasion?" The occasion is that I’m leaving the North to search for Kieren and I’m not gonna come back until I find him so I wanted to visit all of my favorite places here before I go since I probably won’t be back for awhile. Oh, and I came here to tell you that too. But she’d meant to tell him sometime later.

"Nothing much. My hair was just getting a little long for my liking. Makes it hard to do certain styles. It doesn't help that I still suck at using bobby pins. Those things are impossible!”

He let out a small laugh at the cinnabun exclamation. Leah and her weird nicknames for things. Drapping a small towel roll around Danae's neck, he eased her onto the seat and turned the water on warm. He removed his arm gloves and set them on the counter, revealing the cigarette burns. They still looked nasty as hell but the ones in the room already knew about them. And the store was closed so there wouldn't be anymore customers for the day.

Both of them listened to the other's explanation for being here today. And Kota couldn't really say he believed the randomness of it, even if it's this certain blonde airhead.

"What, I thought you knew how to trim your own hair. And I don't remember you having the patience to style your own hair on a daily basis, or try complicated ones for that matter. And I still do not understand why you still can't use a flipping bobby pin properly." Danae snickered while her hair was being shampooed. As Kota lathered the cleanser into the strands, the white bubbles quickly turned a dirty rust color. "Ick. Danae, what the hell did that stylist put?" he asked, disgust rolling off his tongue.

"See? What'd I tell ya? You should join the crew and be my personal stylist. The offer is still there~" Kota rolled his eyes at his friend, pulling the faucet into a hand-held to rinse off the now red foam.

"Not happening. You have too many shoots and I don't want to be waiting on you all day every day." As much as he loved Danae, that was way too much work and commitment that he wasn't willing to put in. The girl 'boo'-ed in response.

Decidint that a second shampooing would be necessary to get all the color out, he grabbed a bottle of color remover from a higher cabinet. The blonde silently cursed when water dripped into the sleeve of his shirt in the process. He really hated when that happened but he had to stretch his arm to reach the cabinets and he was never going to use a chair.

Getting back to his work, he waited for Leah to answer.

Leah puffed her cheeks. “Well, yeah but just ‘cause I know how to do it doesn’t mean I’m good at it. If I cut my own hair, I’ll, like, cut off too much and it’ll be all uneven and I’ll have to come to you anyways to fix everything and then you’ll have to cut off more and then my hair will be too short. And hey!! I do style my hair sometimes! Not all that often, but I do!”

Leah scowled at the mention of bobby pins. “And, oh my god. Freaking bobby pins. Do not get me started with bobby pins. Those things are like, the worst invention ever! I mean, I try to put one in my hair and it just falls out. Then I try to open it a little more and put it in my hair again, and it still falls out. Then I try again and it falls out again. And when I try to open it a little bit wider? It breaks. Ugh. Those things are horrible!” When she finished ranting, the girl listened to the conversation between Danae and Kota.

Grinning, Leah joined in. “Ehhh, you should do it Kota. That would be really interesting. Except that you probably wouldn’t have time to cut my hair anymore. But I could always ask Caius or something ‘cause it would be worth it to know that you are waiting on Danae everyday.”

He snorted. "I really doubt your hair will get that short." He half-listened to the bobby pin rant--because, god, this girl could rant about anything. He hummed in satisfaction when the color remover did its thing, waiting until the water ran mostly clear before shutting off the water and proceeding with towel patting the hair dry. At least Danae's normally bleached hair wasn't so affected by the temporary coloring that it needed touching up.

"Yeahhhhhhnoooooo." Moving Danae to the chair to fix her myriad of layers, he continued. "Why the hell would I give you two the satisfaction of working me like a dog?" The pay, admittedly, would be good. But somehow the blonde highly doubted professionals would want a fifteen year old with the face of a preteen and the attitude of a goody-goody. That was always fun. Oh, and there was also the issue of him being a Harbinger, however subtle his eye color was.

"Because the satisfaction of getting you to work your ass off is way amusing all on its own." The girl was joking, or course. She knew Kota enough to understand that he didn't like working if he didn't want to. "How about you Leah? I have a shoot in two weeks that I think you'd have a blast going to. I mean to model of course."
