Dum didn't pay Trace a single lick of attention as she hurtled toward her sister, avoiding the exploding bottles and their shrapnel. He dove out of the way, rolling to his feet to see her dragging her sister out of the way of the flame. He was a little relieved at that--he had no immediate desire to smell burning flesh. And as he watched Dum's sagging form and turned to see Shade emerging from the rubble--looking relatively unscathed--it seemed to him that things were turning in their favor.

But then Dum flung herself at a shelf and almost before he could blink the flames went rampant, scorching the air and forcing him to turn his face away. The building seemed to be sighing in pain all around him as the tongues of flames went into a frenzy, consuming more and more by the second. They didn't have much time to escape.

Trace knew what he had to do.

He detonated the water bottle now laying behind the pile of boxes, sending them flying towards the flames. As the fire surged from the first few boxes to the rest it would be--temporarily, perhaps--diverted from its path to the exit, buying them a little more time to escape. But even though Shade was safe, she was still farther away from the exit than either of them.

Throwing two bottles into the air, he set them off with a thought and called down a small torrent of water to drench area around the exit. That done, he reached into his pack again for two more bottles. Now came the hard part.

Well, that pretty well answered that question, didn't it? Everything was going to hell in a hand basket and the flames were not helping that impression at all. At least there was the benefit for all of them of that the fight was effectively over, even if the twins were escaping. An added benefit for herself was that there were even more shadows being thrown for Shade to utilize, even with the added difficulty of the flickering light.

Agreeing whole heartedly with Dupree's shout, Shade started to pick her way out, moving as quickly as she could over the debris and around the flames. While moving, she was gathering shadows as she passed them. As soon as she was within her fifty foot range of their exit, she flung a hand out to shore up the wall and creating what was in effect a large umbrella. If the ceiling decided to collapse, she hoped that she could hold her power long enough for at least one of them to get out, but she wasn't under any illusions that just a couple of good blows would send her to her knees.

"Trace! Get moving!" she called, veering toward Dupree to offer a shoulder if he needed it.

Dupree forced himself to run onwards to the exit stumbling a little, but the crows that were still around where helping him stand by pulling his cloak up. While their help was appreciated he was glad that Shade had come to help as well, because the time the birds had was almost up. His ribs ached painfully with every step and even though she was smaller then he was the assistance was more than what just the crows could offer.

He was also grateful that Trace's power over water helped clear some of the flames around the exit and Shade's power gave them some added protection from above, but he knew better than to stay there any longer than necessary.

Once they'd cleared the exit Dupree wanted to try to send his crows out to get a bird's eye view and see if they could spot the twins escape route, but the birds had finally reached their time and made their way into his mouth and turned into feathers. The harbinger began choking on the feathers that were covered in dust and ash, but forced himself to swallow them.

He was angry at his own failure to kill the twins, but he knew there was nothing he could do now with his injuries. He was just glad that he was had received the worst of them. His conscious would've been much harder to deal with if it was one of the kids with him.

He kept quiet on his way back to the hearse, but his frustration and disappointment was obvious. Once they were at the hearse he set his broken shovel down in the back before he got into the driver's seat and drove off with the warehouse creaking loudly as the supports finally gave way and the building collapsed.

The group of harbingers saw a couple of firetrucks and police cars pass them on their way back to the North District, but luckily they weren't stopped. "My sister will be able to give you any basic first aid if you need it." Dupree told the two harbingers next to him with a sigh. His sister wasn't going to be pleased with this turn out, but at least he'd have another chance in a couple of weeks.
