As Friends -- Halt, Shade ((canon))
- Spoiler:
- Wing: Shade huffed softly, hunching her shoulders in her jacket against the light rain. It might have been spring now, but the weather was still chilly and wet and she was sick of it, just wanting a dry, warm day. She shook herself off lightly after she entered the small shop, glancing around to see if the owner was in. It had been a week or so since the last time she had been by to see Halt and she was hoping that he'd be up for more than just hanging out this time.
Ella: The tall man was singing under his breath, dusting off his wares tenderly and smiling to himself. He had just gotten some good tips, saying Andrew was off the market for a bit. That always pleased him. Even though he was pretty sure Andrew would get huffy if he knew Halt kept an eye on him.
Wing: Shade tilted her head as she watched him. It was always interesting to see the large man when he thought that he was alone. And considering how she seemed to keep slipping in when his guard was down, it had happened more than once.
Deciding to tease him, she reached out with a bit of her shadows to move one of the things he had just finished cleaning.
Ella: He blinked and looked over at the china doll before pushing it back mildly to it's place.
Wing: Something to his other side was moved next.
Ella: He jumped and turned, staring at it. "What the hell?"
Wing: The original china doll moved again, then something on a shelf near his knee.
Ella: "Okay, can we not Paranormal Activity in here!" he yelled at the figures, turning around and seeing Shade. "Dammit Shade! You love messing with me too much." He threw the rag at her head, grinning now that his brief fear was over.
Wing: She grinned back, reaching up to catch the rag and throw it back, her aim much better than his. "It's funny seeing you jump."
Ella: "Oh shush you." He bent down and kissed her forehead in a friendly way, lifting her hair and pushing it out of her face. "How're you doing?"
Wing: She smiled, liking how gentle he was with her. "I'm okay most days," she answered with a small shrug. "I'm getting tired of missing him though."
Ella: "I'm sorry dear. What can I do today?" He called a greeting as a customer entered to browse, walking behind the counter to put up his cleaning products.
Wing: She trailed after him, leaning against the counter and reaching out to toy with one of the items on a shelf. "Halt, are you going to be busy tonight?"
Ella: "Don't think so. Why? Want to go to another movie? That last one was terrible, so I get to pick this time."
Wing: She laughed softly. "Actually... I was wondering if you'd... be willing to go on a date with me," she said, rushing a bit at the end as she blushed and looked aside. "N-not a real date, but... I keep seeing Kier around and I just... It's petty, but I want to make him jealous."
Ella: "So a fake date?" He leaned forward, voice going quiet as he spoke gently. "Are you sure you can handle such a thing?" he asked, brushing her cheek lightly.
Wing: She looked up at him and nodded. "I know it's not going to be real and I trust you and we have fun just hanging out so it should be fine." She gave a somewhat weak smile. "Plus, I have to work on getting over him sometime, right?"
Ella: "Yes you do, and if a fake date with me will help, then I am happy to serve." He lifted her hand to kiss. "Just tell me when and where, and how handsome you want me to be."
Wing: She laughed softly at the kiss and smiled at him. "Thanks. I was thinking tonight, if that's okay? I can pay for everything and... if you mean clothes, just jeans and a nice shirt is fine. You're handsome on your own," she said with a smile.
Ella: He shook his head. "Even fake dates I pay for, my dear. So don't worry your pretty little head over it. Just make sure you're stunning enough to make him weep in regret." Which shouldn't be hard, considering how beautiful Shade was.
Wing: She laughed softly, moving around the counter to step onto a box and kiss his cheek. "Thanks, Halt. I'll be back at six thirty, if that works for you?"
Ella: "That works fine. One last question. Should I kiss you if we see him or not?"
Wing: She tilted her head in thought. "You can kiss me if you ever feel like it," she said with a smile. She hadn't told Halt what Kier looked like yet and she had no intention to.
Ella: "All right." He grinned and kissed her cheek softly. "Now, shoo dear so I can focus on my work on not on your sweet self."
Wing: She laughed again and nodded, stepping down again. "See you soon," she said and walked out the door with a wave, absently thinking of where they could go since she hadn't put any more thought into it than just asking him.
Shade was back a few minutes before she had said she'd be there, sending Halt a text asking if the door to the shop was unlocked.
Ella: He replied in affirmative, ditching his effort to tame his unruly hair and fixing his button up before jogging downstairs lightly in black jeans and tennis shoes, the shirt matching his eyes nearly perfectly. "Hey hun," he called, patting his pocket for his wallet. "Ready to go - you look beautiful."
Wing: She blushed softly, smiling up at him. "You look great too." She shuffled a little, reaching up to lightly toy with the clip in her hair. "I didn't really think about where we'd go exactly, just the general area. Is that okay?"
Ella: "Yeah, I'm sure we can find stuff to do. Where to?" He took her hand easily, pulling her close.
Wing: She blushed again then slipped her arm around his waist. "East district. Halsted Avenue."
Ella: "Any particular reason why there?"
Wing: "Because it's near where we both live and I know he goes there. And there's some good restaurants there as well. It's one of the artistic areas of the city."
Ella: "Ah. Okay. That sounds like fun. Let's be artsy people." Halt grinned as they walked to the bus stop, tangling his fingers in hers.
Wing: She laughed softly, squeezing his hand a little harder than she really needed to, the only outward sign of her nerves. Stepping closer a little, Shade leaned her head on his arm.
Ella: He paid for the bus trip to Halsted, discussing things since they last met up, making her laugh and poking fun lightly until her nerves seemed to disappear. As they got off, he kissed the top of her head lightly, grinning and laughing even more brightly as he asked if there was an art gallery they could look at.
Wing: Shade laughed as well, teasing back when she could tell he was teasing and just looking at him blankly when she couldn't. She lifted a hand to point out one of the galleries, one that primarily showed local, starting artists. "We could go into that one."
Ella: "All right, let's go there." He wrapped an arm around her waist, squeezing lightly.
Wing: She smiled brightly up at him, pausing to hug him and set her head on his chest. "Thank you again."
Ella: "You're welcome dear. Anything for a good friend like you." He paid for two entrance tickets, stroking her hair softly.
Wing: While they were looking around, Shade glanced at him. "You know, he didn't ever take me on a date like this. He took me out to dinner a few times, but normally we'd just watch movies at his apartment and curl up on the couch together." She tried to stifle the wistfulness in her voice but didn't completely succeed at it.
Ella: "Well those sort of dates are important too. Next boyfriend you get, we'll make sure he is more balanced." He grinned.
Wing: She smiled at him. "Does that mean you're like my big brother now too?" she asked, teasing.
Ella: "Yes, yes I am my dear. I'm anything you want me to be." He smiled, poking her nose.
Wing: Wrinkling her nose a little, she gave him a funny look and reached up to rub her nose. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Ella: "Nothing much my dear. Don't worry about it and tell me how a dot on a sheet of paper is art." He led her to another exhibit, staring at it.
Wing: She stared at it blankly then shrugged. "I have no idea. It's not even different shades or textured or anything. If it was an outfit, it would be very plain and... unflattering."
Ella: "Except on you," he said with a cheesy grin, kissing her hair again.
Wing: She frowned and looked up at him. "No, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't look good on anyone, even a model."
Ella: "Oh come on Shade. You'd look good in a paper sack." He nudged her lightly.
Wing: She shook her head. "That wouldn't be practical to wear. Why would someone want to wear a paper sack anyway?"
Ella: He sighed softly. "I'm teasing dear."
Wing: She blinked. "Oh." She blinked again and shrugged, stepping back to glance him over. "Do you think you'd look good in a paper sack?"
Ella: "That's not a compliment told to men, dear. I think I'd look good with a maple leaf about... here." He waved absentmindedly to a statue that demonstrated what he was saying.
Wing: She gave him a bewildered look, clearly not understanding what he meant about the differences in gender for the paper sack. "Uh... How would the leaf stay on?"
Ella: He glanced about before leaning down to whisper. "It wouldn't."
Wing: "Isn't walking around naked illegal?"
Ella: "Oh Shade. You're so literal. And I love you for it." He grinned but didn't tell her about the time he streaked at his own football game.
Wing: She smiled back, thinking that it was a compliment but not completely sure of that. "Where do you want to go to eat?" she asked.
Ella: "Hmm, someplace you think he'd be at, course." He wrapped his arm around Shade's shoulders. "That's the point, yeah?"
Wing: She snorted softly. "He'd eat anywhere, really. And we could ask for a window seat."
Ella: "All right then. Still, I'm not picky." He squeezed her lightly.
Wing: She tilted her head, humming softly. "There's this place that cooks chicken breast in a mango sauce. Want to go there? They've got pasta and steaks too."
Ella: "That sounds delicious actually. Let's go there." He had to let her lead though, slipping down to take her hand.
Wing: She smiled up at him but was content to lead. Part way there, she stopped suddenly and turned to him, grabbing the front of his shirt to yank him down into a kiss.
Ella: He let out a surprised sound before closing his eyes and leaning against her and kissing back, slowly and carefully deepening it.
Wing: She wrapped her arms around his neck, returning the kiss. After a little while, she slowly broke it, easing back onto her heels again.
Ella: "Did you see him or something?" he asked softly, tracing her cheek lightly.
Wing: She nodded, face a little flushed. "Yeah. He's with someone too."
Ella: "What else should we do then? Ignore them?" He kissed her forehead softly.
Wing: "Yeah. If I wasn't good enough for him while we were dating, then why should I look at him now?" She gave him a weak smile, trying to put on a brave front and thankful for the sunglasses she was wearing since they hid the sheen of tears and pain in her eyes.
Ella: He stopped and looked about critically. "Where is he? Just point him out so I know he's looking when I do what I do next."
Wing: "You're not going to hit him, are you?"
Ella: "No, I won't even look at him." He traced her cheek again softly, kissing her hair.
Wing: She looked at him then sighed and nodded. "Over there, to your right. He's got the red-violet hair and is with the girl with blue hair." The same girl he had been with the past two times she had seen him. It hadn't taken him long to replace her.
Ella: He nuzzled her lightly before slowly sidestepping, making full sure that the redhead noticed Shade before drawing her up into a kiss, hands on either side of her face, making no secret he was being very thorough with his tongue and lips and teeth. He very carefully avoided looking at the man he was sure was getting an eyeful.
Wing: She gasped in surprise then moaned softly, setting a hand on one of his wrists and tangling the fingers of the other in the front of his shirt.
Ella: He held the kiss out as long as he could before breaking it, breathing a bit hard. "Good?" he whispered.
Wing: She nodded, a bit dazed and blinking hard. "Wow," she whispered before she smiled widely and let out a giddy giggle. "That was definitely better than when we met."
Ella: "Shush you." He placed a finger against her lips softly. "You know you only deserve the best."
Wing: She blushed softly, glancing aside as she absently licked her lips. "Y-you really... think so?"
Ella: "Yes I do. Now, dinner, or shall we skip to dessert - thatsajoke," he said, adding the last bit quickly.
Wing: She laughed softly and nodded. "Sure. Dinner sounds good." She leaned forward, feeling bold, and pressed a light kiss to his mouth.
Ella: He laughed and kissed back. "Careful or you'll turn me on sweetheart."
Wing: She blushed again and let him straighten before she tucked himself under his arm. "So what do you think you'll get to eat?"
Ella: "That mango stuff sounds good," he said honestly, licking his lips absentmindedly as they walked.
Wing: Her lip gloss tasted like watermelons and had transferred onto his lips. She laughed softly and nodded. "It's not bad. I like their pork chops with the apple slices."
Ella: "That's an unusual combination." Of course all things in his head were turning into sex. Shut up! Just because he nearly had his way once, didn't mean a thing. She was his friend and nothing more. But it was proof how much Lisa was starting to torture him.
Wing: Shade shrugged a little. "They put fruit on all of the entrees. It's pretty interesting. I'm working on trying everything," she said with a smile.
Ella: "Then let's both try something you haven't had. You can taste both and pick your favorite." He caught sight of the restaurant in question, leading her towards it carefully.
Wing: She blinked a few times then smiled up at him. "Are you sure? You can get whatever you want."
Ella: "Yeah I'm sure. But I have the right to eating what I like better as well, okay?"
Wing: "Okay. It'll be funny if we both like the same one though," she said as they entered the restaurant and were greeted by the hostess. "Table for two please, by the window if possible?"
The woman's eyes flickered between them then she nodded, lifting two menus and leading them to the requested table. "Your server will be over soon."
Ella: "Thanks." Halt slipped into a chair after making sure Shade was seated, perusing the menu. "So what are my options?"
Wing: "Well, the pasta with grilled pineapple sounds good, but so does the citrus gyro." She hummed softly and looked at him. "What do you think?"
Ella: "I like gyro usually, so I guess I'll get that." He smiled and peeked at her. At the end of the day, he'd get those glasses off to make sure she hadn't been crying at the very least.
Wing: She nodded and smiled at him. "Okay. Pasta for me then."
When their waitress came over, she smiled at Shade. "Welcome back. What can I get the both of you today?"
Ella: "Citrus gyro for me Miss," Halt said, folding his menu up and handing it over.
Wing: Shade made her order and handed her menu over as well, turning to Halt as the waitress nodded and left to place their order. "Thanks again Halt. And... Sorry about basically jumping you like that."
Ella: "I'm used to it," he said with a wink, sticking his tongue out at her.
Wing: Shade blushed softly, looking aside. "So, you've got a lot of partners then too?"
Ella: "Not really. I mean..." He stopped to think. "I was really bad in high school, okay? I hit puberty really early, with most of the girls actually, and a senior thought I was nineteen so she taught me how to please a girl. And in tenth grade I had my first time with a man. Once I started working with my uncle though, I slowed down a bit, got picky. So afterwards, I'd only have maybe five or six different people a year." He winced slightly. "Sorry, I sound like such a player. I guess I am."
Wing: She shrugged a little. "But you haven't been dating one person and having sex with others, have you?"
Ella: He shook his head. "I've actually not had much of a sex life after meeting Andrew. A few people when he disappears and I get lonely, but mostly...now that he's got Trevor and I'm trying to convince Lisa to go out on at least one date with me, I guess I'm not going to have any company for awhile." He smiled. "But I would never cheat on my boyfriend or girlfriend. Except to go out on fake dates with lovely friends like you Shade."
Wing: She blinked, tilting her head. How many Andrew, Trevor pairs could there be? "Trevor?" she asked slowly.
Ella: He shrugged. "I only know that he's a guy that Andrew is starting to stay with. If he hurts Andrew though, I will kill him." His voice went dark, expression serious as he added the last bit, something she had seen him do once he had learned more about Kier. No one fucked with Halt's cobbled together family.
Wing: Shade blinked again, staring at Halt in surprise. He had mentioned Andrew a time or two before so she knew that he cared a lot for the other man, but she hadn't realized he was so fond of her already.
"Uh... If you don't mind me asking... Does Andrew... um... How did he phrase it? Does he... sell himself?"
Ella: Halt's lips thinned a bit. "Yes he does. I try to make it so he doesn't have to, but he insists on making his own money and sometimes running doesn't cut it." He looked down at the table, tracing the fake wood pattern. "There's nothing I can really do about that without breaking him myself."
Wing: Shade nodded slowly. "Harbinger? Red hair?"
Ella: "Um, yes? Do you know him?" he asked in surprise, eyebrows lifting high.
Wing: She nodded slowly. "Kind of. I'm the one who owns the house they're staying in. I told Trevor that if Andrew caused problems or hurt him, I'd kick him out or hurt him myself." Realizing what that sounded like, she lifted her hands to wave them a little, looking apologetic. "I just meant that since Trevor said that Andrew was a bit like his ex who had just up and vanished and broke his heart..." She laughed softly.
Ella: "So we're basically on opposite sides then, aren't we?" He laughed too, trying to stifle the sound.
Wing: She tilted her head. "Wait, Andrew likes Trevor? Like... how I like Kier?" She winced. "Liked. How I liked him."
Ella: "I'm not totally sure yet Shade. He hasn't come out and said anything to me. This is only talking to his little friend Marjorie. So don't take what I say as gospel or anything." He raised both hands defensively.
Wing: She nodded slowly. "Well, I can honestly say that Trevor doesn't like him like that. But, again, he did just have his boyfriend vanish so..." She gave Halt a smile. "For what it's worth, Trevor'd never intentionally hurt someone without good reason. Though, he wants to hit Kier too," she said with a soft laugh.
Ella: "I like him better already," Halt said with a small smile as their food arrived.
Wing: She thanked the waitress and waited for her to walk away again before taking a bite of her food and hummed softly. "Try some. Then you can tell me about Andrew and I'll tell you about Trevor so we can both relax."
Ella: He reached over and took a bite of her pasta and then his gyro, nodding. "Surprisingly good." He chewed, thinking. "Well, I guess I should start with that the boy's more than a tad insecure. He thinks himself a whore and that everyone will leave him in the end, if he doesn't leave first. I've been trying to work on that for years, but it can be hard."
Wing: She snorted softly then waved a hand apologetically. "Sorry, sorry. Trevor is the same way, only he tries not to let people get close in the first place. Well, not with the whore part, the people leaving him thing." She reached over with her fork to steal a bit of his gyro meat and the fruit.
Ella: He let her take a bite then fought her fork with his playfully. "How about we make a pact to keep an eye on them and make sure they don't hurt each other. If they stay friends, good. If they decide to be more than, we'll keep them from running away." He smiled at her and stole a strawberry. "And you can always come to me."
Wing: She laughed at the fork fight, smiling as they did that. "Okay. That sounds like a good idea to me. And thanks. I appreciate that." She nudged his leg with her foot. "You can come to me too. I can do more than it looks like I can."
Ella: "All right then Shade. Tell me how to make a girl say yes to a date then." He gave her some gyro meat and juice as concession to her winning the fight.
Wing: She paused, looking at him blankly. "Uh... I'm not the person to ask for that," she said then gave a sheepish smile. "I should probably have added that even though I can do more than it looks like, I also know less than most people when it comes to people."
Ella: He reached out and patted her hand gently. "It's all right Shade. I was kidding again, anyway hun." He smiled and jabbed his fork into a grape, making it bounce off and roll under the table. "Crap."
Wing: She laughed softly, leaning down to pick up the grape and set it aside. "So, what is Andrew's power?"
Ella: "Um, well he fell off of the top of my pawnshop once and was okay. So I guess that's his power?" He successfully speared a second grape, popping it into his mouth.
Wing: She nodded, swirling a forkful of pasta. "That's neat. Trevor's a healing type."
Ella: "Really?" He glanced at the scars on his hands. "Where was he when I smashed my hand into a glass wall?" he joked, laughing. It hadn't hurt him after all.
Wing: "Probably in South where he's been staying," she said practically. "How old is Andrew? And why did you smash your hand into a glass wall?"
Ella: "Turning twenty soon. I have anger problems. How old is Trevor?" he asked in return.
Wing: "Currently twenty. His birthday is in May," she answered, tilting her head. "What made you made enough to hit a wall?"
Ella: "One of my runners got hurt while on a information hunt for me, and the people got away with it." His gaze darkened again and he sighed, rubbing his forehead. "I'm fine though. I have a very high pain tolerance."
Wing: She nodded. "Is that just because of how big you are or have you been hurt a lot before and got used to it?"
Ella: "Both I think. I got beaten up a lot as a kid. Then I grew." He grinned.
Wing: Her response was another nod as she took a bite. "I got used to the pain too."
Ella: His smile became a bit pained and after a moment he slid over into her booth, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pressing a kiss into her hair.
Wing: She blinked and looked up at him, once again not having realized that she had said anything that could be upsetting. "What's wrong?"
Ella: "Don't worry about it Shade." He smiled and kissed her forehead and nose lightly. "You're going to be all right."
Wing: Her nose wrinkled a little and she tilted her head at him. "I'm fine right now," she said slowly. "Really though, what's wrong? Did I say something that bothered you?"
Ella: "I just don't like knowing that you've been hurt in the past," he said softly, stroking her cheek.
Wing: She shrugged a little and smiled at him. "Can't help that. And he's dead now so he can't hurt me again. Plus, I got away from him... four and a half years ago. I think. Roughly about that long."
Ella: "I know, but then there's Kier and god...I want to punch that man in the face." He kissed Shade lightly before slowly going back to his booth. "Sorry."
Wing: She blinked then shook her head. "Oh, I meant that I'm used to physical pain. Emotional... that's something else entirely. That's all new."
Ella: He gave a very gentle smile. "It doesn't get any easier as time passes, I'm afraid."
Wing: Shade nodded slowly, expression falling a little. "Oh." She looked down for a moment then forced a smile. "I'll be okay." She wasn't very hungry anymore though and wasn't sure how much longer she could keep up the ruse.
Ella: He noticed how her face seemed to grow longer and lifted his hand. "The check and a couple of to go boxes. Shade, my dear, I'm afraid you shan't be going home tonight. Let's go to my place and watch a movie." And find a private place for you to break, he added silently as he paid for the meal with his only credit card.
Wing: She blinked a few times then nodded, closing her eyes and swallowing. She could make it that much longer. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
Ella: "Don't worry about it Shade. I'll take care of you, don't worry." He helped pack up the food and walked with boxes balanced in one hand, a protective arm around her shoulders. "A cab will be faster than a bus," he suggested.
Wing: "Only if you let me pay this time," she said softly, leaning against him.
Ella: "Okay. This time. But I..." He leaned down. "I don't want you to break down in public. I know it's embarrassing. So we'll get someplace safe."
Wing: She nodded. "Thanks," she whispered, giving him a small smile. "I did once so another time isn't that big of a deal, but thanks."
Shade stayed pressed against his side through the taxi ride and had one hand tangled in the back of his shirt as he let them into his apartment.
Ella: He left all the lights off, shutting the leftovers in the fridge before he knelt, reaching for her glasses. "Let's take the mask off now, okay dear?" He carefully set them aside, squinting his eyes to look at her more clearly.
Wing: She stared at him for a little before her eyes closed and she leaned forward to wrap her arms around his shoulders and hide her face against the junction of his shoulder and neck. She started to cry softly, her body shaking.
Ella: He held her close, scooping her up to carry into bed, curling up around her. "Shh, it's going to be okay Shade," he whispered softly.
Wing: She turned toward his chest and did her best to burrow into him. "Why wasn't I good enough?"
Ella: "He was too thick to see a treasure sweetheart." He realized he didn't know the details of what had happened, so he asked now, softly. She was already upset after all.
Wing: She sniffled, pulling back a little to wipe her face and pull off her jacket to toss on the floor with her boots, showing that her dress was a halter top. The darkness still hid her scars though. "We met in August but didn't start dating until September. It was at the fall festival that he asked me. And on New Year's was the... the first time we had sex. Th-then I found out from his sister th-that his birthday was in December s-so I bought him a present a-and went over t-to his place and..." She pressed a hand to her mouth and took in a couple gulps of air to try and calm so she could finish talking. "H-he was h-having s-sex w-with anoth-ther w-woman. H-he said h-he w-was sorry, but why'd he have s-sex with h-her in the f-first place?" Squeezing her eyes shut again, she shook her head. "I p-probably should h-have realized th-that something l-like th-this would h-happen a-after th-the way h-his 'f-friend' k-kissed h-him b-before w-we s-started d-dating, b-but I w-was stupid."
Ella: He ran a hand over her back gently, pulling her close to him so she was crushed against his chest. "You aren't stupid. You were ignorant. And he didn't explain himself?" He felt himself grow angrier at the man. He would beat Kier to a pulp if given half a chance.
Wing: "He t-tried t-to say h-he was s-sorry, b-but I d-didn't w-want to l-listen t-to him. I d-don't kn-know if h-he t-tried t-to exp-plain." She set her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.
Ella: He sighed softly and kissed her forehead and hair repeatedly. "It's okay Shade. We'll deal with everything a day at a time. You can break down here if you want, whenever you want."
Wing: She nodded a little. "Th-thanks. I d-don't really have anyone else I can w-with. I'm... I'm n-not sure th-that my roommates care any m-more. A-and I d-don't w-want t-to bother T-Trevor a-and I'm n-not r-really c-close w-with anyone else." She knew plenty of people, sure, but she was closest to Trevor and now Halt.
Ella: He stroked her hair. "I'm sure Trevor wouldn't mind if you broke down with him dear," he said softly, still holding her close.
Wing: "B-but he already d-didn't l-like K-Kier a-and af-after H-Hoss j-just left... I d-don't w-want t-to upset h-him m-more."
Ella: "Do you consider him a true friend?" he asked simply.
Wing: She shook her head. "T-Trevor's like my brother," she whispered, starting to calm.
Ella: "Then he won't be upset that you confide in him. Rather, he'd be upset that you don't, I would think." He smiled. He knew he would be.
Wing: She tilted her head to look up at him. "You really think so?"
Ella: "Yeah, I do." He smiled at her. "If you don't want to stay the night, I can take you to his place."
Wing: She thought about it then shrugged, looking unsure. "What do you suggest?"
Ella: "I suggest you get some rest and meet up with Trevor when you both have plenty of time. Maybe say that you want a night where you both can dish on Hoss and Kier." He stroked her hair softly. "Like with ice cream or whatever you two like."
Wing: She laughed softly. "Okay. I'll go over in the morning. Thanks," she said with a smile, moving a bit to kiss his cheek.
Ella: "Mm, you're welcome dear." He closed his eyes, rolling so she was lying on him. "And if he doesn't want to do it, then come back here and I'll treat you like the queen you are."
Wing: She paused then sat up, straddling his stomach and her skirt riding up her legs. "...Kier used to call me princess," she said softly before standing and going to get one of his t-shirts.
Ella: "Oh. So stay away from terms of royalty?" he asked, rolling onto his side to watch her.
Wing: She glanced back at him and gave a shrug. "I'm no queen and, yeah, princess is a bad idea. Otherwise, I guess you can call me whatever you want." She turned away again and set the shirt she had found on the dresser before reaching up to tug her dress over her head, leaving her in her dark leggings and it was clear she wasn't wearing a bra.
Ella: "Bad idea facing a dresser that has a mirror, hun," he said, grinning and rolling back over to give her some privacy.
Wing: Her eyes jerked up and she squeaked, grabbing the shirt and yanking it on as she turned red. She had completely forgotten about the dumb thing since Halt was just out of view for the angle she was standing at. While he had his back turned, she took the opportunity to slip her leggings off.
Ella: He laughed and stifled the sound. "Don't worry. I can barely see in the dark."
Wing: She blinked then huffed, walking over to the bed again. "I forget that people can't see as well as I can," she mumbled, sitting on the bed.
Ella: "It's okay." He reached out, pulling her down to kiss lightly, aiming for her cheek.
Wing: She turned her head, not realizing he was going to kiss her, and he got her lips instead. She blushed again.
Ella: He pulled back quickly. "Sorry, I wasn't aiming there."
Wing: She shook her head and offered a small smile. "It's okay. I trust you and I'm not dating anyone and you're trying but you're not yet, so... it's fine."
Ella: He stroked her hair softly. "We should get some sleep. Crying has always made me tired."
Wing: She laughed, a little wetly as tears prickled her eyes again. "I'm sorry that I keep crying. I'm so sick of crying," she mumbled, curling up against his side.
Ella: "It's all right dear." He pulled them both under the covers, stroking her hair. "You're allowed to cry."
Wing: "But I don't want to cry anymore," she protested softly.
Ella: "The crying stops over time," he reassured her, sighing quietly. "The pain fades too, even if it doesn't ever go away completely."
Wing: "...Promise it will?" she whispered in a small voice.
Ella: "I promise." With some fumbling, he found her pinky and linked it with his. "I've been through it enough."
Wing: She let out a soft laugh and squeezed gently. "Okay. If you need to cry, you can call me too."
Ella: "I will," he said, wrapping his arms around her again. "Right now you're safe here."
Wing: She smiled, setting her head on his chest again. "Thank you," she whispered before letting her eyes close so she could sleep.
