Happenstance (Griffin and Michael) Empty Happenstance (Griffin and Michael)

Michael walked slowly down the dark streets of The City, the night time giving it a dark and dreary glow. He knew that the first places to look are where the crime usually hides, and through that he found himself in the bowels of the Crime-infested alleyways of The City.

With the dark, brisk air swirling around him, Michael found that his mind wasn't willing to create thoughts. It seemed blank and it was determined to stay that way, as if it was looking the other way from what he was about to do.

He had never planned to hurt anyone as methodically as this. He had been used to pain and violence, especially inflicting it on others, but he never planned it. He never went through it in his mind with a enormous amount of detail. However, this time, he had to, or he wouldn't get any information. Without information, nothing else could work.

This had to work.

Today seemed oddly quiet. No one had shown their faces to Michael. Were they all hiding from him? It seemed smart, but he hadn't even captured a single person yet. They had no reason to fear him yet. On the edge of his hearing, though, shouting could be heard.

"Perfect." Michael muttered to himself, a small smile entering his face. He started to move closer to the shouts, hoping to get there before shots could be fired, as they often were in this city.

The West district was surprisingly quiet tonight, even taking into account the after dusk curfew. Something had sent the smaller, more intelligent rats to hiding away, waiting for the storm to pass. A good predator would take care to pay attention to what the vermin did, using it to gauge what they could and should do and where the danger was, and if there was one thing that Marian was, it was a predator; one that had earned her place at the top of the food chain.

It was this experience that gave her the confidence to walk the streets alone and apparently unarmed. And it was that illusion that drew some of the prey that proved Darwinism as fact.

She supposed that they had a small bit of saving grace since they were smart enough to attempt an ambush. They just weren't skilled enough to pull it off and she quickly showed them that. Though she was certain that it didn't sink in until after she had broken one knee and another's nose with the collapsible baton she had in her coat pocket.

As Michael drew near, he sighed with exasperation. The aggressors seemed to be already passed out, broken and bleeding. Did she really have to cause this much damage to them? There wouldn't be a lot for him to manipulate without waiting for them to heal.

And he was getting very impatient.

However, in the corner of his eye, he saw more gang members approaching, being drawn closer by the sounds of combat. When the first one of them saw his comrades on the floor, he quickly turned and said to a scrawnier member, "Go, get backup, quickly!" With a nod, Michael saw him run off at speeds approaching high-level sprinters.

"Must've been a scout..." Michael muttered before realizing that an entire gang will be after their heads. He had to get this lady out of here. Even if she was strong, she couldn't handle dozens of gang members with guns all at once.

He rushed over to her. "We have to go." He said simply, his face incredibly serious. He had his morals, and wouldn't touch anyone until they either gave their consent or signed their deathwish, so this would have to be a matter of convincing her to leave. He hoped she had enough common sense to leave, he didn't want to stand here arguing while a Gang descended on their heads.

The person who was stupid enough to approach someone in the middle of a fight nearly got his own skull bashed in before Marian realized what he said and her eyes flickered to the side to pick out the others. Dropping her baton, she slipped away from him and drew out what looked like another, somewhat odder, blunt weapon. It just took the proper flick of her wrist for the bow to extend itself and another second saw the string set properly. By then, she had finished her turn and nocked an arrow. The first was in air and half way to the sprinter by the time she had a second on the string.

Sparing a moment, she glanced at the man who apparently wasn't an enemy, yet, and spoke, "Either stay out of my way or fall with them." She turned away again, the feather pin on the lapel of her coat glinting in the light a little.

If things continued and more people arrived, then yes, she would tactically retreat, but until that moment arrived, she was going to make them regret choosing to attack Fringe's Boss.

"You shall not kill these men." He said simply, turning his head to the footsteps rushing up behind him. He struck out, sending the back of his fist into the man's neck before turning and sending his knee into the man's stomach, making him wretch on the ground.

"I need them. They have information I desire." He kept his words calm, but his face was turning more and more angry. He couldn't stop the adrenaline pumping through his veins now. The Rush would start, with or without his consent.

At that moment, he saw the glint of the pin. He saw it and committed it to memory. Even though he had been out of The City for so long, it was easy to recognize that insignia. He looked up at her again.

She was the boss, wasn't she? Or a high-ranking member of The Fringe. She was powerful, definitely powerful, and if she turned on him in this fight, he didn't quite know if he would leave it. With this pressure added, he turned back to the mass of gang members moving his way. He quickly counted them up. It was around 7 men left, with more possibly on the way.

Too few to stop him.

He closed his eyes and started to lose control, opening them again to have his pupils shine. He balled his fist, throwing it at the first man to cross his path. The man lifted off his feet and cemented himself into the nearby wall.

Seeing this display of power, the men stop, horrified. They gulped simultaneously as Michael laughed, his voice deeper and more animal-like. He crouched down slightly, waiting for them to attack him.

"Come on. BRING IT!"

She quirked an eyebrow at his order. These men were clearly part of a small-time gang and were likely members that were lower on the hierarchy so what one knew the others likely did as well. He had already knocked out a couple so he could question them before she killed them as well; she couldn't leave someone thinking they could get away with attacking her after all and it was clear they really weren't worth her time. She released her second arrow and drew a third as it buried itself into a throat.

Her other eyebrow joined the first when the one who had talked to her gave a very good impression of a fly swatter. She hadn't given him more than a cursory glance earlier so what he was had slipped by her; something that she inwardly berated herself for. After all, it didn't take much for someone to turn on another, particularly if they didn't actually know one another.

Marian moved back a few more feet so she would have more than enough time to shoot him if he attacked her as well. For now though, she'd let him deal with them and save herself the ammunition. If anyone ran though, she wouldn't hesitate to shoot them down.

Despite his taunt, the men were hesitant on approaching him still. He sighed, rolling his eyes.

"How pathetic you worms are. Now, I have a few questions for you. You tell me, you live. You don't, I splatter your brains on top of Paul Wall over there." He juts his head in the direction of the crew member still indented in the wall.

"Now. Who wants to talk?" He smirked, imposing down upon the crew members as they all stood there, shaking and shivering. One decided that he was decidedly idiotic enough to run up, sending his fist right into Michael stomach.

Michael sighed, looking over to the man brave enough to stand against him. He grabbed the man's head and lifted him off the ground. He shook his head and the man's head in unison.

"Wrong decision."

He slammed the man down into the ground, hearing the crack of all the man's bones at exactly the same moment. For good measure, Michael decided to step on the man's back, hearing the crunch as the man was almost flattened. Blood started pouring out from under him, slowly spreading across the floor.

"Anyone else?"
