Fye blinked as the girl abruptly went from standing to running, scurrying up the alley quite quickly--he looked down the way after her, curious, leaning out into the alleyway, and watched as she peeked around the corner, looking at the front of his shop. He understood after a second: she was checking to make sure that he was honestly a baker and not trying to poison her. He supposed he had good reasons for doing so.

He leaned back in as she came running back up the alley, raising her head, and met his eyes. Ordinary, normal eyes--not a Harbinger.

That was fine. Everyone needed help sometimes.

He handed her the paper sack, repeating his warning, though this time adding something to it.
"Be careful. And good luck."

Asche had tried extremely hard not to seem embarrassed, but her face suddenly flushed at the kind sentence of the man. Well, at least Asche's gaze had lasted longer than she had thought. In an attempt to recover her composure, she tightened her mouth which made her look a mouse with puffed cheeks instead.

In a small, but clear voice, Asche said,
"Thank you!" Before waiting for a response from the man Asche was already off running towards the Metro. Asche hadn't asked for the man's name and refused to turn back due to her shy demeanor, but also because she needed to get home. She slightly regretted the choice, but at least she caught the name of the bakery when she checked, The Emberwheat Bakery.

As she was turning a corner and running down another alley passing a few stray cats on the way, Asche recalled the moment when the man tilted his head and the light had reflected in his eyes that showed his harbinger trait. She was absorbed by them and wondered if all harbingers had such captivating eyes. If all harbingers are as nice as that man, Asche decided she’d like to meet more and find out. Clenching the bag brown, waxed bag, Asche was secretly looking forward to such a rare treat, butterfly cookies. But before that, she had to get home. She couldn't help but smile as she ran because staying out late had brought her a pleasant surprise but, in the process, she knew that she had unnecessarily worried her grandpa. Her smile quickly turned into a puzzled expression.
I wonder if grandpa be okay with cookies as an apology.

Fye watched the girl scurry off, the bag of cookies clutched in her hands, the blond a large figure silhouetted by the light from the kitchen, making sure she got to the end of the alley safely and standing on the step for a long moment afterwards before exhaling a long breath and slipping back inside.

The rest of the night passed uneventfully, Fye opening his door a few more times, trading smiles and remarks, well-wishes and quips with those that came to his door, washing dishes, putting them away, readying the kitchen, and cleaning the shop proper little by little in-between visits until he ran out of bread and baked goods, upon which he went back outside once more, reaching upwards to unhook the lantern from its hanging place, damping the flame until it died, taking it back inside to the darkened kitchen and putting it away, locking the door once more.

He went to bed, setting the alarm for early in the morning again, and in the quiet space between midnight and the morning, the Emberwheat Bakery slept.
