To Catch A Frog [Alex and Blue] Empty To Catch A Frog [Alex and Blue]

Post by Grimm Fri Aug 17, 2012 6:28 am

On the odd days that Alex closed the Lodge, he occasionally found himself strolling the Western district's less populated areas. Today, by some chance, he had ended up walking through one of the local parks and found that there was a fair amount of foot traffic. He figured it was because it was actually nice out today and not the usual "melt your face off while crying bitter tears that will evaporate as they leave the tear ducts" summer weather. It was one of the reasons he dressed lighter than normal: Blue jeans, a white shirt, his black blazer that he left open and a pair of sunglasses to hide his eyes.

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary today, aside from the nice weather, since there was the usual happenings in the park. Woman in tight fitting clothing jogged by and attracted a fair amount of attention from both sexes, couples strolled the pathways together while being hand in hand, people young and old played games or socialized. Same old, same old.

Sighing, Alex just kept on walking.

That is until he finally stopped when he spotted some blue haired girl splashing around in one of the man-made pond that sat in the center of this particular parks. Eyebrow quirked and curiosity piqued, Alex flopped down on a park bench that faced the pond and contemplated fishing out a cigarette from the pack that was sitting inside the breast pocket of his blazer. He eventually decided against it on the ruling that he shouldn't needlessly make himself hot if his addiction wasn't acting up. So instead, Alex settled back on the bench and called out to her.
"Lose something? Or just going for a swim?" Not likely. The water didn't seem that deep. Looks, however, could be oh so deceiving.

To Catch A Frog [Alex and Blue] Empty Re: To Catch A Frog [Alex and Blue]

The day started out fairly normal. The weather was nice, with a slight breeze that set off the usual skin- frying heat which tended to drift across the Substratum. Blue got up, prepared a small meal, ate by herself, and lounged around in the stuffy apartment she preferred to call her home. Though, being alone was something she came a custom to, there were rare occasions when she desired the company of another. However, it wasn't the human kind she favored. In fact, Blue didn't have much patience or time to build a relationship. It wasn't like she knew how to anyways. Unless you considered the doorman from the first floor her friend. Yeah. BFF.

So then, how did she end up wading in a shoulder-deep pond? A pet. The answer to her recent depression, and current state of loneliness was just a few breast-strokes away. Or at least- that was what Blue reckoned when she arrived at the West district park. As it turned out, catching a frog was a lot harder then she originally assumed. Finding one wasn't the problem, but managing to grasp onto it before the croaker retreated into the murky basin was another fucking story. After about an hour, she was beginning to reconsider her earlier decision. Dumpster diving for a stray cat sounded a bit more appealing with every passing minute.

She parked her bike a few feet away from the pond, and as the day drawled on the temptation to throw in the towel and head home was staring to give way. That was until a flash of movement sparked in the corner of her eye. She readied her self, crouching in the pond until the water was level with her nose. If a by stander was to walk by, they would see a pair of goggle covered eyes peeking through the Marsh. Like a tiger stalking its prey, Blue slowly moved forward.
...Wait for it...-- SUCCESS!

She cupped her new pet, and held it up.The scene was comparable to when Rafiki raised Simba in the Lion King. Now standing perfectly still, Blue had all attention focused on the little creature in front of her. Thumbs grazing the frogs smooth skin in a circular pattern, she ran though a list of possible names.

Harold. She would name it Harold.

Locking her eyes with his she mimicked the bulge in Harold's throat by puffing out her own cheeks. this was love. Blue was positive.

"Lose something? Or just going for a swim?"

Ploop! Blue had been by herself for the entire day. Not one stranger dared to even COME close to the pond, let alone talk to her. So that's why, when the voice rang out from behind her, Blue dropped the Pet she so lovely held onto. With a look of stricken horror, she watched as Harold made his descent back into the Swampy pool.

For a moment, Blue didn't move. She just watched the water. Partly because she was hoping that Harold with leap back into her arms, and because Blue wasn't certian she could stop herself from strangling the man behind her if she turned around. Finally-- Blue titled her head. Even though her eyes were hidden safely behind the tinted shades of her goggles, the menacing glare she was Sending the man could bring even the toughest humans to their knees. A dark aurora hung just above her as she plotted numerous torture methods while the grinding of her jaw could of been herd through out the entire park. She was practically fuming. However, while blue was mounted in the pond she neglected to realize the affect water had on a cotton shirt. To put it simply- it didn't leave much to the imagination.

"You..." Her voice was dangerously low. " Get in the water."

Maybe he shouldn't have skimped on the cigarette, since the view he was getting when the woman turned around wasn't that bad. The fact that she had a bit of a killing aura was a bit of a turn off, because Alex rather liked keeping everything of his where they were suppose to be. Alex probably should have kept his mouth shut since it seemed that he had been the cause of her losing whatever it was she was holding. He didn't know what it was, but it seemed to have been momentarily important to her.

"You... Get in the water."

"Tempting, but pass." He didn't like her tone. If she wanted to ask something of him, she'd have to say pretty please and not skim on the fucking sprinkles. Though maybe he'd forgive her considering her current state of dress and everything, but only if she promised not to mutilate him. However, Alex had been wet enough for the last couple of days and he could thank the stars that at least she wasn't knee deep in a river of sludge. The pond looked murky enough thought, making him unsure if he wanted to risk it or not.

Alex continued to push his luck though, since she she had to wade through the water if she wanted to get to him. Zapping her would have been overkill though and he doubted he'd be able to make it through the park with the limp body with dripping wet clothes clinging to her body. It would be harder still if he had zapped her and accidentally killed her in broad daylight but still. "You never said what you lost," he called back after, gazing down at her through his shades.

"Tempting, but I'll pass."

Oh, will you now? It wasn't like she was asking the man to toss his pants to the side and dive into the pond with her. Well, actually she expected him to do it with his clothes on. What was the harm of a little bit of water? Not that the lagoon screamed ' bubble bath' but she figured if a 20 year old girl (Well, almost 20. Her birthday was next week) with zero swimming lessons would do it, then that man certainly could. The basin was deep enough where you could wade around without drowning. Aside from that, for the briefest moment Blue achieved something she never had before. A pet. One that she would of kept if it weren't for Mr. Shades. If he wasn't going to get wet himself then Blue would simply have to help him.

" You never said what you lost."

"Harold."

The corners of her mouth lifted to reveal a devilish smirk. One that was rarely seen among others. Normally she wouldn't of gotten so worked up over such a simple matter, but this was personal. After spending hours in a pond, you tended to be a little on edge. Harold had to be avenged. Reeling back, she lifted the palm of her hand before shoving it into the pond. Upon doing so, the water sprayed forward and sent a stream of tiny droplets hurtling towards the man in front of her.

Eat fish poop.

"Harold."

"Harold?" Alex asked as an eyebrow arched. That really didn't help him any. If he didn't know what it was, then how did she expect him to help. Assuming, of course, he decided to get off his ass and wade through the water towards her. He still didn't see how this would benefit him any aside from getting a closer look at her, but he could wasn't the type of person to sit and gawk at another person. The man had some shred of manners somewhere deep, deep inside him, after all. The fact that she was oblivious to it all was a little amusing though.

An eyebrow arched again when the woman went to scoop up a handful of water (giving him another view most guys would probably kill for, but Alex wasn't most guys) and launched it in his direction. She must have overestimated the distance that water could travel when she tried to splash him, since all it managed to do was barely reach the grass in front of his. "Nice aim," he mocked, returning the grin she had given him. She really shouldn't have wanted him in that water so badly, since he might end up frying hey by accident. And by accident it meant on the off chance he grew frustrated and got a little trigger happy with his powers.

"What is a Harold, if you don't mind me asking?" he said as he stood up and stretched, deciding to take on the role of Good Samaritan before she waddled over to him and wrung his neck. Alex kicked off his shoes and peeled out of his blazer and set it (along with his shades) on the park bench he had been sitting on, leaving him in his white shirt and blue jeans. "And do I get any sort of compensation for helping find whatever this Harold is?" Nothing was for free, after all.

" Nice Aim."

Blue's eye twitched slightly. Well, that didn't work. The water barely reached the tip of his shoes. It wasn't like she expected the splash to drench the man, but aggravating him to the point she was at would of been nice.

"What is a Harold, If you don't mind me asking?"

She paused a bit before answering. If the man actually was going to get in the water and help her, Blue would have nothing but pride on her side. Actually conceiving Mr.Shades to take swim would be a big win for her. She lost Harold because of him, and now he was going to help her find the pet again. Fair was fair, right?

"He's a frog." She stated, while watching closely as he set his blazer and shades on the park bench. It took a moment to notice, but eventually her attention drew to his newly reveled eyes. Causing her own to narrow. Harbinger. She repeated the word mentally before sucking her breath in. Unless purple kitty eyes were the new norm, this guy was a full blown power wielding mutant. Oh god no. No no no no. Normally she would of been pleased to of found another harbinger. (After all, there were only so many) But she just spent the past five minutes trying to provoke him. Though he seemed generally calm, who knew what sorta guy he really was. Maybe he was planning to get in the water only to severely injure her. Not that she couldn't defend herself if it came down to that. Perhaps this was all bit far fetched but the possibility still played at large.

"And do I get any sort of compensation for helping find whatever this Harold is?"

She side glanced at her parked motorcycle. No way was she willing to ever GIVE that up, and not for such a tiny task. A few bottles of blood were tucked away in a bag that hung off the bikes handle bars and unless his restitution was the same as hers then those would be of little use to him.

" I could work for you for at least a day."

Of course Blue was lying. Once Harold was returned she planned to high tail it out of there.

To Catch A Frog [Alex and Blue] Empty Re: To Catch A Frog [Alex and Blue]

Post by Grimm Thu Aug 23, 2012 9:30 pm

"So a Harold is a frog?" Alex asked, a thin black eyebrow arching as he stopped to reconsider helping. He didn't want to waste an entire afternoon just helping a wet girl look for a frog in a pond that probably had a dozen or so of them. And she said that she'd work for him, but the girl didn't even know what he did. Or if he owned a business unless she had been at the Dusk Lodge before and he didn't remember her. Which, Alex found, was unlikely. He rarely forgot a face. "What did he look like?"

The fact that she had glanced over at her bike hadn't gone unnoticed. Alex owned one as well, but drove it less than he used to. Karis kept it maintained for him, since it was a relic from his past and he just couldn't seem to part with it. It still ran fine though, so he saw no point in parting with it. So the girl didn't have to worry about parting with her bike, since it would have been a pain to get accustom too.

"You'll work for me, huh? How do I even know you would be worth hiring?" Alex asked as he slowly edged towards her, his stride casual but confidant. The grass felt nice under his feet after he got rid of his socks, but there were a few jagged rocks and he grimaced when one dug into his feet as he stepped on it. Violet eyes grew slightly hooded as he glanced back at the girl, "Credits are fine if you have them." Fifty or so would pay for cleaning his pants, since he had a feeling that conventional cleaning wouldn't get the smell of the pond out. He wouldn't get in for anything less than Forty at the least though. Unless, of course, she pulled him in with her.

"He...has two eyes..and..."

There really wasn't much difference between Harold and the average frog. However, Blue felt a certain chemistry between her and the amphibian. If Harold was spotted, then she would most likely be able to recognize him. There was no doubting the adoration between her and the croaker. (It was love)

"You'll work for me, huh? How do I even know you would be worth hiring?"

While he advanced closer, Blue followed in the motion by wading to the edge of the pond. The drop off from the grassy shoreline to the pool was fairly steep, so the water just reached her hips. Quirking an eyebrow she rethought her earlier statement. The only work she's ever known was protecting people. Being a body guard was fairly easy, you ordered the client around and took out their target-er. You didn't need social skills to defeat an enemy. She also sang at the Gateway Dinner to earn a few bucks, but that wasn't considered a full time job. She was always her own boss so working for someone else could prove to be a challenge. Plus, the work this man specialized in was unknown to her. Blue also planned on running away before her part of the deal could be made.

"Credits are fine if you have them."

PFFFF- she was broke. Not even Broke, it was like all the poor empty wallets were poured into a blender, then swirled around to create one bad tasting smoothie. A smoothie that she was forced to drink. A smoothie of bankruptcy. Forget the credits. This entire predicament was his fault. Screw the fact that he might be able to blind her, or blow her up. The guy shouldn't of even talked to her! Didn't most humans (or harbingers) tend to stray away from 'crazy' wet people? Not that Blue considered herself insane but she reckoned the by standers thought that much. She wasn't naive enough to believe that pond diving for a pet frog was normal. The earlier irritation that died down was slowly building up again. Blue could of been nice and dry right now with Harold by her side. His fault. His fault. HIS FAULT.

Without warning, Blue's hand shot forward and wrapped around the man's ankle. Now, she wasn't very strong but when the time called for it she could muster up enough strength to get the deed done. Yanking back (with all her might) she pulled Alex into the pond with her.

To Catch A Frog [Alex and Blue] Empty Re: To Catch A Frog [Alex and Blue]

Post by Grimm Fri Aug 24, 2012 6:42 pm

When Alex felt the world fall out from under him, the first thing he did was spin to the side that she was pulling in and kick out with his opposite leg as he fell to the ground. His leg kicked out fast, yet awkwardly, so actually hitting anything would have been difficult. However, his legs were long enough for him to have at least hit something (with wither his foot of his shin) if he was fast enough even if he hadn't aimed properly. It was his fight or flight instincts that made him do it, and having been in a gang meant that fight always kicked in first.

The second thing he did as fell was try to minimize how much it would hurt when his body connected with the ground. So, turning as he fell (and kicked), Alex landed on his side in a half roll before the momentum of her pulling him and the steepness of the slope got him into the water. When he felt she was no longer holding his ankle, Alex arched his back to breathe in a lungful of air, since his head had submerged before he had even been ready to go under. Naturally, having been caught off guard as he had, Alex accidentally took in some water before he could get air, so he spent a few moments sputtering and hacking up pond water.

Lovely.

"Are you fucking crazy?" Alex yelled in a pot calling the kettle black kind of way after pushing to his feet, mostly since he hadn't really needed to kick out at her. Instincts were a pain in the ass, however, and he had. More concerned about himself than her at the moment, Alex scowled as he looked down to find himself throughly wet all over and muddy on one of his sides and chest. He was sure his face was a little muddy too, since a rather filmy substance was caking his chin and one of his cheeks. His pack of cigarettes were probably waterlogged along with everything else in his pockets. Good thing that his phone and wallet were in the blazer that he took off near the bench, since now he really needed the Credits to get his clothes cleaned. 'Impatient sonuvabitch,' he snarled in his thoughts. He was coming in anyways. Really.
