Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

It’s cold. Not insanely, below zero cold, but just cold enough to seep through Trevor’s jacket and make him shiver. Well at least it kept him awake. The snow was falling lightly and there was some kind of morbid, unearthly, beauty in it as it fell through the dim light in an abandoned amusement park at night. Who even puts only two people to watch an entire amusement park? Actually by now he’d admit the whole job was a mistake in the first place and it was starting to get creepy.

He’s been standing under the lamppost for at ten minutes, waiting for whoever his partner was to show up. He should’ve brought a book or something, he took this shift in the first place because he thought no one would bother to invade at 3 fucking am. That, and because he wouldn’t get any customers at the clinic at 3 am either.

He rolled the pendent August made him in his fingers, the metal was freezing cold and heavy. He still couldn’t get used to the name Caduceus either; guess that’s what he gets for picking a name out on a random whim.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

Post by Marian Thu Jan 24, 2013 12:10 am

Marian took in a deep breath of frost filled air, enjoying the stillness of the night as she moved toward where she was to meet her partner for the night, her hands in her coat's pockets. All of the fixed pairs of watchmen were settled and taking their duties seriously, not that they had known she was watching, and the other two roaming pairs were on their circuits.

She paused a distance away from him, frowning slightly at how he was leaving himself exposed. Tall, distinctive hair, and a harbinger to boot. Gray eyes flickered a moment then she gave a minute nod to herself. Caduceus, healing power, restitution was that he took on the wounds he healed. Interesting power, useful, potentially a disadvantage though, if he took wounds at the wrong time.

"You need to work on your situational awareness," she said softly as she stepped up behind Trevor, staying out of reach and curious over how he would react, studying him. "And you shouldn't stand in the center of a light. It makes you highly visible and ruins your night vision," she added on.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

He spun around; it was a girl, hovering just on the edge of the lamps light and barely visible. Well she didn’t just snipe him while he was oh so apparent under the lamp so maybe that was a good sign. She did have a point though, and while pointless really to do so now, Trevor moved out and into the shadows opposite from the other figure.

“…And you are?” She of course could be anyone, though he highly doubted this person was just some random stranger who got really lost on a winter’s night. He couldn’t even see well enough to tell if she was a harbinger or not, silently thinking maybe he could actually use Caden’s power and tact with people in situations like this.

He fingered his switchblade, quickly growing warm in his clenched hand, it wouldn’t be good to fight in the dark but if it did turn to that, the lamp was right there and it shouldn’t be too hard to get an opponent in its light. Suspicious and waiting for her answer he was willing for his eyes to hurry up and get adjusted to the darkness.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

A very small, mildly approving smirk pulled at the corner of her mouth. His reaction time was good, as were his reactions themselves, and he wasn't foolishly trusting like some of the other prospects and associates were, believing that since they were in the park everyone who passed by was a member of the gang. She made sure to disabuse them of that quickly - it kept them alive and prevented any issues cropping up.

Marian stepped forward, moving through the circle of light so he could study her as she walked toward him. There was a glint as it reflected off the infinity symbol pinned to the lapel of her coat.

"Griffin," she responded to his question, that same vague approval in her tone. It was good that he asked that as well.

She nodded at his hand. "You can put that away, Caduceus. We're working together tonight." Her eyes flickered over his form again. "Have you gotten yours yet?" she asked, tapping her pin with a finger. If he didn't have the identifying symbol, he was going to need to get one.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

"Griffin,"

Well at least he now had a name, and she spared him the trouble of introducing himself since she apparently already knew his name. Or at least the one he had to use currently. The small gang symbol only eased him a little, same gang did not mean friends, and plus he didn’t like the gang members in the first place.

“Didn’t want one…”Liked he wanted to affiliated with an organization he was forced into. He was no longer ready to whip out his weapon but he still kept his hands in his pockets, it was still freaking cold. “How do you know my name anyways?” He hadn’t been recruited that long ago, and this was really his first misson so he still was at the bottom of the ladder and preferred to stay down there. She also couldn’t have been a past customer of his because she definitely wouldn’t have known him by that name. God he hoped she wasn’t another Caden, taking weird interests people and generally fucking them over terribly.

His eyes were adjusting slightly and she stepped closer to the light so he could at least make out she wasn’t a harbinger.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

She arched one thin eyebrow at both of this comments then shook her head lightly, stopping about a yard from him. "Whether you want one or not, you need one," she said, a hint of sternness to her otherwise even tone. "It's a matter of safety for everyone. If you do not have one and report for a mission, you will not be easily identified and could be attacked. It could result in your death or the death of another member. Had I not known that I was meeting a new Prospect, I likely would have killed you. Or had you taken in for interrogation."

She tilted her head up at him, cool eyes meeting his. "I know the alias of each member, their power, their restitution, and other strengths. You are a healing type harbinger, type two. The wounds of whomever you're healing are taken unto your own body." She let out a soft breath, the exhale clouding in the air. "You haven't done any research into Fringe, have you?" It was mildly amusing to her that he didn't know who she was.

“That’s a bit harsh for not wanting to wear a stupid pin.” Wasn’t the thing supposed to be technically hidden on your clothing anyways? Because he certainly hasn’t seen it displayed proudly on any of the gang members that make up most of his clientele.

He raised an eyebrow as well, maybe he was right and she was crazy about keeping tabs on people like Caden. “So are you the gang’s main informant or something?” Though he could only be mildly surprised about the info she had on him, all of that stuff about his power was very easy to find and figure out, it was how he got business after all. And what’s with the high and mighty attitude though?

Shrugging slightly, “The only people I know about are the ones who forced me into joining, and I really don’t care either way.” He had a feeling he probably wouldn’t like anything he saw if he did look into the topic, just more and more messed up people the higher up the food chain you got.

Marian let a light smirk pull at her lips. Harsh? Perhaps. But when the alternative is a knife in your back, well, you learned to deal with a little bauble, be it pin or necklace or something else.

His question about her being an informant actually drew a soft laugh from her and she shook her head. "No, nothing so trite. I just like to make sure I know the best uses for each member." She ran her eyes over his form again and got another raised eyebrow. "You aren't much of a fighter, are you?" Though that was a rather good thing considering his power, made it easier to utilize him in other ways.

"It is your decision to know more or not, though the intelligent choice would be to have as much information as possible." She shrugged and turned to start walking, gesturing for him to walk next to her. "At the very least, you should know when you're speaking with your gang's boss," she added on, an idle and vaguely amused tone to her voice.

“Maybe, but it doesn’t mean I don’t know how to fight.” He wouldn’t be standing here right now if he didn’t, even if he wasn’t that skilled but that was all that was really needed when it was just the occasional crack head and petty thief he had to fend against.

He trailed along side her, matching her pace and feeling the cold stiffness in his legs from standing there the whole time previous. “I thought Snow was the boss?” She had certainly had the same high and mighty attitude as Griffin, he wasn’t a master of hierarchy and maybe there was more than one boss or something or maybe the girl who dragged him here had been forced to retire early in light of this person.

Either way his speech wasn’t going to get any more polite. It somehow seemed colder outside of the little light that was now behind them and wondered how much time was left until this shift was over. “So I assume if you’re with me then any other guys on patrol won’t murder me at first glance?”

She shook her head lightly, braid swaying a little between her shoulder blades. "No. Snow White is one of my Commanders." She glanced at him again then nodded. "That is correct. We will pass the fixed guards but shouldn't encounter the other roaming patrols. However, that won't mean much if we separate for any reason or for your next mission. Or if you're sent to tend to one of the other members. So, you see, it truly is in your best interests to have an identifier - other than that quaint necklace of yours."

By then, they had been walking for several minutes and had neared the outer edge of the park. Marian stopped suddenly, holding up a hand to silently order Trevor to do the same and keep quiet. Listening hard, she glanced at the taller man then tilted her head, indicating for him to stand off to the side of the path, and passed him her pin before he could go. Once he had, she nodded and slipped off to the other side, vanishing into the growth.

Now, to wait for the trespasser she had heard to show him or herself.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

Post by Lapin Tue Feb 12, 2013 3:26 am

"Ethan, Ethan! Look! There's a Ferris wheel like in the book!"

The ten year old blonde glanced up to where his twin was pointing. There was indeed a brightly lit Ferris wheel, all sparkly and iridescent. Though emerald eyes widened, he didn't move from his spot a far distance from the edge of the roof. He wasn't scared, just cautious. He watched Mizuki gawk at the 'amusement park', as they called it, with her bright red eyes. She had the biggest smile on her face while going on about how she'd love to see it up close and personal one day and ride all the rides including the roller coaster.

---

Having had that dream the night before, Ethan was reminded of the amusement park. And on a whim, he decided to check it out. It had been a good nine years ago when his twin dreamt of visiting the amusement park. The lights from that area died out a few years ago but the rides were never torn down. Probably costs too much money that the city wasn't willing to pay to needlessly clear out the contraptions. Or, by some off chance, they actually cared about preserving the memories held there so the demolitions were called off. Yeah, right. Only an idiot like his sister would say that.

Guess it would make Lapin a bit of an idiot for suddenly deciding to check out the place even when it was no longer running. Especially when he knew Fringe had made it their HQ. He didn't concern himself much with the Merc gangs, and he wasn't scared by their reputation. Just because he mostly lived Underground didn't mean he wasn't up-to-date with current news and happenings to an extent.

Pulling his hood over his head, he continued to sneak in the shadows, his black and gray outfit making it easier to blend in. There wasn't much security to say the least. Actually he hadn't seen any since he got here. He was just slipping behind a roller coaster beam when he spotted a pair. He could make out a woman chatting with a man quite a bit taller than she. It was hard to tell if they were gang members or just a couple taking their midnight stroll around. Well, he shouldn't stick around to get caught. He'd seen enough anyway. Just a bunch of old rides rusting and falling apart. Mizuki would be disappointed.

Turning to go, his foot made the softest sound against the dirt, a small puff kicking up to his ankles. Might as well go home, or chill on top of his usual high roof. Actually...

Lapin glanced up at the roller coaster. He could sit at top, it'd just take a bit to get up there. Not a problem, he didn't have anywhere to be. Deciding not to leave yet, he glanced around for a way up, no longer paying much attention to the pair he saw earlier.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

Post by Tora Tue Feb 12, 2013 10:54 pm

“I see…” Well then, the girl who had forced him into this had even more of a reason to act high and mightier than this Griffin chick. Also ‘one of my commanders’? He got slight chills unrelated to the cold thinking that there more than just a couple of these weird psychopaths and that it still included more if he thought about the fact there were the other two gangs with their own problems.

“It was a gift.” And he was only afforded that small little quip before the faintest scrape of a noise snapped them both into silence- her gesture for silence was rather irritating; he heard the noise too y’know, he’s not a little kid who doesn’t know how to react.

He didn’t need to look to know what she slipped into his hand, which then was shoved into his pocket. Griffin disappeared, he had no doubt she’d resort to violence if it came to it. He didn’t necessarily want to hide in the dark though. Pinpointing the source of the noise and walking up as casual as you like, “Oi Blondie! You lost or something?” Loosening his speech into the dumb teenagers who acted tough and occasionally caused him trouble. If he could play off being some dumb teen who made his way into the park at night for a night time thrill there was a chance he could get at least a feeling for whatever business the guy was here for.
Kind of a dumb and dangerous plan but Trevor hasn't had the benefit of learning the subtleties in how to deal with situations.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

Post by Lapin Mon Feb 18, 2013 6:29 pm

Lapin pulled up the beam, finding the right grip to steady himself. Not too bad, it wouldn't take long to scale-

“Oi Blondie! You lost or something?”

He was taken by surprise by the sudden cholo talk, his hand slipping off the beam. He grunted as he fell on his ass. What the hell... Did he look like he was lost? He looked up at the owner of the voice and Jesus he was tall. And a Harbinger at that. He stood and brushed himself off, hardly intimidated. His arms were ready to throw the needles hidden up his sleeve, and he was ready to make a run for it too. Keeping himself outwardly relaxed, he looked the other in the eye and answered coolly, "No, I'm not lost. Are you?"

Lapin didn't fail to notice the woman that this man was with was gone. He kept himself alert in case she attempted an ambush. Now, to deal with this loud and obnoxious dude. Was he trying to play a tough guy? Because Lapin was not scared. "You do know this is Fringe territory?" Kind of hard not to with the talk that reaches even the Underground. If the blue-eyed man didn't have the foggiest idea where he was, then maybe he'd think Lapin was a Merc gang banger and leave him alone.

"I was just leaving anyway." He wasn't going to bother with small talk or converse with a random guy who could very likely be part or the gang territory he was in. At the same time, that didn't mean he was leaving either. He went through the trouble of getting here, so he was still going to have his high time on the coaster.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

Post by Marian Tue Feb 19, 2013 7:09 pm

Marian stepped out shortly after Caduceus had spoken and in a place that the blond was between the two of them and watched him silently. She knew she hadn't made enough noise for the average human to hear so unless he was a harbinger, he wouldn't have heard her. And he was focused on the other man so his back was to the woman.

After listening to them talk for a little, she spoke up calmly. "You are not a member of Fringe." Her eyes narrowed a little and she glanced up at the coaster's track. "And that is not the way one would go to exit. You would need to travel that way," she said, tilting her head away from the broken ride.

"It would be best that you leave now," she added, voice firm as she adjusted her stance and let her coat fall open from where she had been holding it closed with her hands in her pockets. She had free access to both of her hidden weapons, the pistol in its shoulder holster and the collapsible baton brushing against her left hand.

At this point, it was a question of what the blond did that would show what her reaction would be.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

Post by Lapin Sat Mar 02, 2013 7:34 pm

"You are not a member of Fringe."

Lapin didn't realize the woman behind him until she spoke. He half turned his body to her, shifting his feet a couple steps back. It may have looked like it was out of being startled, which was what he was going for. The real reason, was so he wouldn't have his back to either of them. He shrugged slightly in response. So the woman knew? It was fine that she did, and interesting too. The woman was average in height but had superior air about her as well as the kind of experience he wasn't familiar with. If she was part of the gang, then he couldn't imagine she was a low rank. Of course that could just be his own speculation. "I'm not leaving the park. Not yet." Now the question was, did he want to pick a fight?

"It would be best that you leave now."

He smiled as nicely as possible, fully understanding that that was a command and not a request but still answered with, "No thanks." Under her coat he could assume she had something. Throwing knives? Projectiles were good for her size unless she had the strength of a bull and had Thor's hammer hanging on her belt. Lapin hadn't forgotten about the male either, but he didn't seem much of a fighter with how wiry he was.

That said, he continued on his merry way in scaling the coaster tracks. He kept himself alert. And it was a good thing too because a shot whizzed by his face and rang out hard as it ricocheted off the metal, a faint burnt smell wafting from the point of contact (that was thankfully not his head). The blonde's first reaction was to retaliate, shooting about three needles at three different points of her body, moving his aim when she avoided one. He adjusted himself so he could face the two and still have on hand firmly gripping on the bar. He watched the lady, waiting for her to attack since she easily did not get hit by any of his needles.

Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin] Empty Re: Catch the hare [Caduceus|Lapin|Griffin]

Post by Marian Mon Mar 25, 2013 12:21 pm

She frowned softly when he ignored her order and decided to attempt climbing the sagging frame. Patience thinning, she drew the pistol and fired off a warning shot, aiming for just above where he was about to grab. At least he wasn't so foolish to continue on. Instead, he reacted with equal force, something that drew a bit of approval from Marian.

The woman took a step to the side to avoid the needle aimed at her hip. The second she swayed back toward where she had been standing, twisting a small bit and dropping her shoulder so the needle flew past her sleeve. And the last she simply reached her free hand up to pluck from the air. Through all of that, her gun didn't waver from the blond's form.

"You will not receive another warning. Step back or I will shoot you." There was certainly no way he could mistake her tone or intent this time and he would have to be an idiot to ignore her again. It would be a pity if he did do so since he seemed a competent enough fighter.
