Shade growled softly when she got to Kier’s door and realized that she couldn’t open it or even knock. This fucking broken arm was really pissing her off since she had it wrapped in a pressure bandage rather than a hard cast so she had it set in a sling. And it made it difficult to carry much of anything, which was why she had thought ahead and brought a backpack with from home to carry the DVDs, drinks, and other stuff. The only thing she couldn’t put in there was the pizza she had picked up on the way.

So, she kicked the door a couple of times since she couldn’t knock. After waiting a bit and the door not being answered, she kicked it again. "Kier! Dammit, Kier, open the door please." At least her arm was hidden by the pizza and the straps for the sling didn’t stand out considering the backpack.

When he finally opened the door, she grinned at him and pushed the pizza into his hands. "Thanks. And here." She slipped around him and kissed his cheek before toeing off her shoes. Ducking into the kitchen, she wrestled the backpack off to set on the counter and dig the stuff out one handed.

Shade turned toward Kier and smiled, holding up a couple of DVDs. "I brought scary movies since it’s Halloween." She blinked and frowned slightly. "But I’m not sure why some of them are called scary." She shrugged at that and smiled at him again, setting the movies down to walk over and wrap her good arm around him in a hug. "Hi."

Pizza, Movies, and Nightmares -- Kier, Shade Empty Re: Pizza, Movies, and Nightmares -- Kier, Shade

Kier hadn't gone out that much since the surveillance mission which was about two weeks ago. Actually he rather not have moved with that cut on his abdomen, which had closed up into a jagged half-scab. It didn't hurt too much now, only if he pushed on it. He'd gone out a bit today to grab a pack of assorted candy in case some kids swung by. Not that he expected anyone to trust a rundown looking apartment as a safe place for treats.

He hadn't been home for more than five minutes when someone kicked at his door. Okay, so maybe some kids did want candy. He spread apart the blind and peered out the window, just as the visitor shouted, "Kier! Dammit, Kier, open the door please."

Pushing off the couch with a small wince he opened the door for Shade, who shoved the pizza box into his arms and let herself in. "Hey. Didn't know you were coming." He set the pizza down on the table in front of the couch.

"I brought scary movies since it’s Halloween. But I’m not sure why some of them are called scary." It didn't take him long to see her arm was in a sling. He hadn't noticed it until she set down the back pack.

"Sup. You didn't tell me about your arm either. Keeping secrets from me now?" he joked, embracing her lightly.

She gave him a confused look then glanced at her arm. "Oh. It's just a broken arm. I got it because I was stupid and forgot something." She pushed up to press a light kiss to his lips, holding it for a moment before pulling away. She blushed lightly and turned away, still a bit shy about stuff like that, heading over to where he kept the glasses.

Shade set two on the counter then just kind of stared at the two liter of soda she had bought (Halloween was the day for sweets after all, right?). She cursed softly since she knew she couldn't open the stupid thing with her powers without destroying the bottle, but she could otherwise manage. Hearing Kier laugh, she turned her half-pout on him, stepping aside so he could do it. Instead, she pulled down a couple of plates and carried them over to the table, grabbing the DVDs on the way.

Setting the plates down, she grabbed one of the DVDs and moved over to his player, opening the tray to swap out the discs. She frowned softly in confusion at the title and turned toward him, holding up the movie. "Kier? What's Sextra Credit 4: Anatomy Finals? I haven't heard of this series before."

"Oh. It's just a broken arm. I got it because I was stupid and forgot something." He frowned but before he would say something along the lines of 'breaking bones isn't a just-thing especially for her,' she kissed him. He sighed and smiled, letting it go just this once because she had come all the way here to have a good time and not be reminded of injuries.

It was cute how she couldn't open the bottle, which is why he laughed, but also because this was her first surprise hangout date. Just as he put the cups of fizzing soda on the table, he saw Shade staring quizzically at the DVD player. Her body blocked his view so he couldn't see what she was looking at. Maybe it was malfunctioning?

"Kier? What's Sextra Credit 4: Anatomy Finals? I haven't heard of this series before." Riiiight. Shit.

Walking over, he plucked the disc from her hand, a smile on his face. "You're a bit too young for this." It was the truth, for the most part. Not that Kier had any problems sharing his porn, but watching it with her right there was a little...let's just say it could get out of hand. He didn't want a repeat of being slammed into a wall, which he had experienced first hand the last time he tried pushing for sex.

Shade stared up at him in confusion, wondering what the hell that was supposed to mean. How the hell could someone be too young for a movie? Please note, this is coming from a girl who until the age of thirteen couldn't remember having ever seen any movies and the first she could remember had been rated R and full of blood and swearing.

" 'Too young'? What?" She stood up and reached for the disc with her good hand, needing to push onto her tiptoes and lean against him for balance as he held it out of her reach, being careful of her arm the entire time. "Come on, Kier. I'm curious now. What's it about?" She huffed and gave a little hop before settling back and pouting up at him. "Why won't you let me see?"

Obviously she wasn't really upset by it since she hadn't used her power to just take it from him, nor did she struggle when he tugged her against his side, laughing at her again. She huffed again and stuck her tongue out at him.

"Come on, Kier. I'm curious now. What's it about?"

He didn't step away, needing only to hold his arm in the air. It was good he had at least five inches on her, though if she really wanted to she could probably take it with a shadow tendril. "Fun and educational stuff. Kinda."

"Why won't you let me see?"

Laughing at her whining, he pulled her closer. "Come on, princess. Let's just watch what you brought. I'll tell you about this one another time." His hand reached around her shoulders to lightly pinch her cheek before letting her go to put the disc back in the case, which he thankfully took the cover off of before hand.

While she got the player going, he placed two slices of pizza on the plates and plopped on to one side of the couch, waiting for her to join him. He wondered what sort of scary movie Shade brought over. Vampires? Mummies? Ghosts? Most of the ones he had watched were those. Maybe zombies? He didn't see too many about that. Not that Kier wasn't good with zombies. The walking dead was just a bit unsettling in a way. Oh wait, did mummies and vampires and ghosts count as 'walking dead' too? Hm.

Shade soon joined him as the previews and commercials rolled on the screens. "I hoped you picked a good one." That is, one that she didn't count as 'not sure why they're scary.'

She scowled, reaching up to rub her cheek. What the hell was that for, she wondered, pouting up at him. Sighing softly, she rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at his back before kneeling down to set one of the movies in the tray, snagging the remote before she stood and moved over to Kier's side, flopping down.

She shrugged. "I haven't seen this one. I hope it's good." If not, then she'd pause it and ask Kier to make one of the bags of popcorn she brought with and end up throwing the snack at the screen. She wasn't going to try using the microwave since she doubted that Kier would want to replace the small appliance.

The movie itself was pretty decent, making Shade jump a couple of times where she had tucked herself into Kier's side, his arm over her shoulders and her feet tucked under her. The zombies in the movie had been the slow, shambling ones that just would not die again, though some of them had managed to muster up some quick bursts of speed, catching some people and eating them messily, pulling off strips of flesh with disgusting wet sounds.

Once the movie was over, she stretched lightly then turned to peer up at him. "That one was pretty good. What did you think?"

"That one was pretty good. What did you think?"

Admittedly the movie hadn't been half-bad, with nothing short of explicit gore and detailed flesh ripping. While those would make a normal person squemish, Kier didn't mind the blood and uncensored devouring of human bodies. Here and there Shade had jumped against him, and a few times even he had flinched. Less because the zombies were particularly scary and more because they pop out randomly in front of the camera as if to eat the viewer.

"Mm not bad, considering the last scary movie I watched was a vampire prositute who worked parttime as a stripper...uh, you don't want to know. It wasn't that scary but maybe I'm just saying that cuz I was with you the whole time." It's like that psychological thing where you feel totally comfortable watching it with other people around and then feeling scared shitless when you're alone in bed at night.

He pecked her cheek before standing and stretching out his muscles, wincing a bit from pulling too hard. "Wanna watch another one or do you wanna hit the sack?"

She smiled at the kiss and tilted her head back to watch him stretch, laughing softly when he winced. "It's only ten," she responded, glancing at her phone to double check the time. "If you want to go to bed that's fine." She shrugged, trying to hide her disappointment. Seeing that she hadn't fooled him, she shrugged again, looking down to fiddle with the blanket she had stolen from his bed during one of their intermissions, having had him help her get her hoodie off around the same time. "I'm just really enjoying this. And there's a sequel..."

She stood, carefully stacking the plates and balancing the cups on top of them. They both could use a refill and she was pretty sure they were done with the pizza, more than half of it having been eaten. She was just turning to tell him that she had brought some popcorn when she realized he was right behind her, taking a step back and bumping into the counter. "Shit, Kier. Don't do that." She pouted up at him, eyes glinting over the sunglasses she had changed into.

He should probably be more careful before he ripped open the scab (with how easily he forgot, it was entirely possible). "If you want to go to bed that's fine." He shot her a skeptical look, not buying it. "I'm just really enjoying this. And there's a sequel..."

"It was just a suggestion," he said, dropping a pat on her head. "I'm not that tired. It's still pretty early. Well, you know, considering how late we've stayed up other times. And it's nice to spend some time with you like this." As in he was enjoying this too, especially the no interruption from trick-or-treaters so far.

Watching her head to the kitchen with plates and cups expertly stacked on one arm, he picked up the pizza box. If the plates were gone, the cardboard box was just taking up space. He set the box on the dining table and followed Shade to the kitchen to help with the soda refills. Also to make sure she didn't try using the sink that we have all accepted will never get fixed.

Kier was right behind her when she whirled, surprised at his presence. "Shit, Kier. Don't do that." He laughed, leaning his hands against the edge of the counter and boxing her in.

"How many times have you told me that already?"

She had flashed a bright smile at him when he commented that he like spending time with her like this. That smile wasn't visible anymore, hidden under the mildly excited look she was wearing, a reaction to how he had set his hands next to her and how he was nearly looming over her. He was the only one that she would let do that and actually welcomed it from.

"How many times have you told me that already?"

"Not enough apparently," she teased. Reaching out her uninjured arm, she caught the front of his shirt with that hand and pushed onto her toes, pressing their lips together. Smiling into the kiss, she put her arm around his shoulders when he deepened it and she stepped closer, her broken arm nestled between them. Slowly pulling away again, she set her head on his shoulder, leaning her forehead against the side of his neck. "I brought some popcorn too, if you want any. But you're going to have to make it since I usually end up turning it into charcoal," she said with a light shrug. The one time it didn't burn, it had still been inedible because the popcorn had hardened to the point of nearly breaking teeth.

Kier welcomed her invitation; she was offering kisses more often now, which was definitely amusing. He would have kissed her regardless of whether she initiated it or not. He slid a hand behind her head, tilting it a bit and leaning into it more. His other arm against the counter balanced him from leaning too much against the broken arm.

As she pulled away, Kier slid his hand slowly down and back onto the counter edge. "I brought some popcorn too, if you want any. But you're going to have to make it since I usually end up turning it into charcoal,"

He snorted, never having seen Shade cook before. "How? All you're doing it popping it into the microwave and punching in the listed time. You sure that your popcorn isn't just defective?" Pushing off the counter and straightening, he glanced around for the popcorn. When he found it, he open the small box for an individual packet and tore open the plastic. It took Kier a quick second to scan the instructions for the correct heating time then tossing it into the microwave. "Let's try this then," he said, simultaneously picking up the wrist of her uninjured hand.

Nudging her finger out, he guided her hands to the correct digits and saying the number out loud as if talking to a child. After pressing the start button, he said, "See, that wasn't so hard."

Shade blinked when he tugged her over and made her hit the buttons before she realized what he was doing. Well, he couldn’t complain if his microwave exploded or something, and she wasn’t going to buy him a new one if it did. She would have warned him if given the chance that most things related to cooking just didn’t work right when she was involved (and if they did, it was the rare occasion things turned out fine).

"I'm not stupid," she said, pulling her hand back. He might have been teasing, but she didn't appreciate it, especially not being talked to like she was a child. She felt like one often enough, she didn't need him to point it out to her. It just made her feel that much more awkward and angry at her uncle.

She brushed past him and returned to the living room, trying not to feel as hurt as she was. It was stupid and she knew it, but it wasn’t like she didn’t try either - this was just another one of those things that made her seem oversensitive.

Okay, for one, microwaves didn't spontaneously blow up from pressing in the buttons and hitting 'start'. That was a fact, especially if it's the right numbers that are inputted. And two, he didn't expect her to start sulking from that. At least not take it that hard since he was only joking like always.

"Crap," he said, following her, "I didn't mean it like that." How was he supposed to know she was overly sensitive about her (lack of) cooking skills? Most of the girls he went out with either knew how to work the kitchen tools or simply enjoyed having him 'help' them around. But Shade was different from the rest, and a type of person Kier wasn't used to dealing with. He was learning his way just as much as she was.

He stepped up close behind her, but did not touch her in case she got the notion that she had to throw him into the wall (no, Kier was not a dumbass when she somewhat warned him minutes earlier). "Sorry, princess. I'm not trying to make fun of you. Really."

Shade sighed softly and leaned back against him. "It's fine. I'm just... being a bit stupid. But you really can't blame me when something goes wrong. It's not going to be my fault." She turned her head to look up at Kier, smiling weakly. "I'm sorry that I walked out like that. I just..." She looked down again, twisting to lean her side against his chest and reaching her good hand up to play with his shirt, watching her fingers twist in the fabric. "I didn't exactly grow up normal. My parents died when I was five and I was sent to live with my dad's brother. And from then until I ran away four years ago, I never left the building. I actually never got to leave the three rooms I was put into. And most of the last four years I hid myself in the apartment I share with the guys because I was so scared of everything and that I'd kill someone else on accident. So... It's really only been the last six months that I've been willing to go out on my own and start learning the kinds of things that most people learn when they're growing up." She leaned her head against his shoulder, refusing to look at him.

Her confession had been abrupt, and taken her a bit by surprise, and she wasn't quite sure how things had gone from being upset about the microwave thing to blurting out a very abridged version of her childhood, but it was only fair that she tell him now, before they got too involved. She just really hoped that he wouldn't find her to be too much of a hassle to continue with.

It was about then that there was an odd clunking sound from the kitchen followed by a fizzling pop as the lights flickered then went out.

Shade lifted her head again and glanced toward the kitchen before focusing on him, reflective irises visible over the frames of her sunglasses. "I told you that something always goes wrong."

After letting her shift, Kier gently put his arms around her, one hand stroking her hair as she spoke. He didn't expect her to forgive him so easily, with how stubborn she was, but more than that, he did not expect her to open up about her life. They hadn't known each other for that long, nor about each other too much for that matter.

Huh, so they both ran away at some point. But it seemed like she had experienced worse than he ever did. Very few grew up normally with loving parents that guided them every step of the way. At least he had someone to help him and teach him the ropes, even if it was just for two years. He'd learned everything he knew from that woman though, survival wise. "It's alright to take things at your pace. There's no rush really. I can't promise I won't tease you about not knowing some of those things, because I will. Feel free to hit me if it bothers you too much. But, I'll help you too, if you want me to. I might not be able to teach advanced calculus, though. But I know all the fun things." He lifted her chin so she'd look at him and smiled. "Not trying to be a sap here. I just want you to know it doesn't matter how you grew up. I appreciate the stubborn, innocent Shade that came to like me."

And then the unusual noises sounding from the kitchen broke the moment. "What the hell? How did that..." He glanced back at his microwave, which had short circuited itself along with the rest of the power. "You playing a trick on me?" he asked jokingly, pulling her closer. Cuz that microwave has been working pretty damn well for at least five years. "You didn't ask me trick or treat. I would've chosen treat."

What Kier said about liking her how she was finally registered to her and she smiled brightly, turning to wrap her good arm around him and press a kiss to his cheek.

"Well, that 'trick' wasn't intentional, but you might still get a 'treat', especially if you keep saying sweet stuff like that," she said, a light teasing note in her voice. She was referring to making out and the kind of touching they had already been doing, not really knowing how her comment could be taken to mean more. And it probably would be and he'd tease her for it and just end up confusing her.

"Anyway, now you can see why I don't cook and I'm not allowed to use the microwave at home." Shade huffed and pouted. "Actually, anytime that one of the guys sees me with a recipe or something, they both vanish."

Rolling her eyes, she reluctantly stepped out of his arms and walked over to the microwave, peering at it. She reached out and turned the microwave, using her power as a make-shift tool and removed the back, looking inside it. "Hm. Wires melted." She straightened and shrugged, looking at Kier again.

"Really now? Cuz I can go on all day about how much I love the little princess you are." Kier already knew which lines not to cross a far as getting physical went. Shade probably didn't know what she asking for half the time. So even if his mind automatically jumps to the actual meaning, he would downplay that thought. He wasn't that slow of a learner.

He laughed at her pout. Looks like she had a natural talent for effortlessly destroying a kitchen. At least his refrigerator was still in one piece--no, that was not an invitation for her to blow it into bits. Out of the things in the kitchen, the refrigerator was most important. Then the microwave (since he had instant food almost every day).

Walking over the microwave, he saw that the wires were indeed melted."Wow, you weren't kidding," he commented, raising an eyebrow. "I'll get a new one at some point, no big deal."There was just a hint of sadness in his voice for having to get rid of one of Lenah's things. But he pushed the thought off and smirked at Shade. "For now, let's get on to another movie. Forget the popcorn."

She couldn't help the blush at his first comment. He was very good at making her do that and she had a sneaking suspicion that some of the stuff he said was uttered just for that reaction. But she was finding that she didn't mind that very much, it made her feel special.

She heard the note to his voice but was distracted by his suggestion of another movie. She turned to look up at him raising an eyebrow. "That's assuming we can get the power back on," she pointed out drily. Either he was confident it was just a tripped or blown fuse, that he could fix it, or he had just forgotten about the power being out, though how the last one could be the case was beyond her, but there you have it.

Brushing past him with a shrug, she went back into the living room. "Where's your fuse box?" she asked, turning to look at him. She had managed to teach herself a lot of things so she was pretty handy, but she wasn't going to go randomly poking around either.

"Fuse box is in the closet." He walked to the small closet in the hallway and opened it, pushing away the jackets. "It's right here," he said gesturing to Shade. "Do you know how to fix it? Cuz I forgot." Lenah had demonstrated a few times but hell if he remembered something like that. She didn't let him touch anything afraid he'd send sparks everywhere and set the room on fire. Though his control at that time was pretty bad.

Kier stepped back, grabbing a couple hangers of clothing to clear the area, accidentally dropping a strapping black dress accented with blood red patterns. He blinked a couple times before picking it up and tossing it into the pile in his arms and taking it to his room to dump on his bed.

Holding up the hanger with the dress he looked at it. It was long, and looked tight-fitted with a slit up the leg. The patterns were glittery, stitching into intricate butterflies. Must be Lenah's. It was certainly her style. He couldn't recall a time when she had worn it, though she probably looked great in it.

She waited while he grabbed clothes so she could get in there, but she was pretty sure they wouldn't be in the way, not that she'd need to be in there all that long. Of course, odds were that he wasn't going to listen if she pointed that out anyway so she just let him do what he wanted. Watching him go down the hall, she smiled, though she wondered why he was moving so gingerly. She'd have to ask him about that later, but first she needed to deal with this.

Taking a look in the fuse box, Shade nodded to herself. Just a blown fuse, that was good. Flipping it on again, she closed the panel once more then turned to follow him. She was going to speak up and announce her presence, but the dress he was studying distracted her. "That's pretty," she said instead, stopping next to him and reaching out with her good hand to feel the material. It didn't occur to her that he might not want her to touch it though, considering who it used to belong to (not that she had been told anything about that). Of course, knowing him, he might not care either.

Ohh yay, the lights were back on. He gave Shade a peck on her cheek when she walked in.

Shade was right, though, he didn't really care if she touched the dress. Not like her fingertips would make the dress implode on itself. Thankfully, the brunette didn't have the same effect on clothing that she clearly did on kitchens. Lenah wouldn't have cared either, so why should he?

"Yeah it is," he responded, then turned to smirk at her. "Wanna try it on? It belonged to my ex." No he did not just say that. Yes, he was joking. "I'm kidding. My mentor. She has a shitton of clothes just sitting around the house." Normally he wouldn't talk about the woman, but what did it matter anymore? Lenah wasn't ever coming back anyway and he didn't see any reason to hide it from Shade.

He continued to ramble off as he moved the clothing back into the closet. "I only knew her for two years and she left, like, three years ago. Just up and disappeared. Dunno where she is now. But at least she left behind a nice apartment with a bed and stuff. Did I ever tell you how she'd never let me use the bed? It's a freaking king size and she wouldn't let me on. Seriously, I slept on the couch every night." He left out the little tidbits of the few nights he did get to be in the bed and his lingering hopes that she would return and his little unrequited love. He was a silly teenager back then. That, and he hadn't told Shade that he still held a grudge against the dark-skinned woman and planned to take revenge for a certain 'first' she took from him.

"But enough about that, let's watch another movie~" He threw an arm around her shoulders, being mindful of her arm. "What's wrong?" She had this upset expression. Was it something he said?

Pizza, Movies, and Nightmares -- Kier, Shade Empty Re: Pizza, Movies, and Nightmares -- Kier, Shade

He wanted her to put on his ex's clothes? Even Shade knew that was odd. And she didn't hear much after that, just that he was rambling on and she could hear the tone he had when talking about her. It was a mix of several emotions, but the ones that she picked up on the most were the fondness and exasperation. Much like were in his voice when he was talking to her.

She looked up at at him when he asked her what was wrong. "...Why are you with me if you still like her?" she asked, not sure if she should pull away or not and unsure if she really wanted to hear his answer. What if she was just some sort of replacement or a placeholder? What if he said as much?

Deciding that she didn't want him to be touching her in case he did say that it wasn't really her that he was seeing but was using her as a surrogate, Shade slipped from under his arm and turned to face Kier, setting her good hand on her bad arm's bicep as she looked up at him.

Pizza, Movies, and Nightmares -- Kier, Shade Empty Re: Pizza, Movies, and Nightmares -- Kier, Shade

So Kier did have feelings in the past for Lenah and he probably always would, he wasn't going to deny that fact, but the whole ex thing was a completely different story. He never had a chance with Lenah, none at all. Zero. Sip. Nada. Those few nights were simply things done in the heat of the moment. There was no possible way she thought of him as any more than a brat she could toy with. That in itself was frustrating all on its own but he had a pretty clear idea where he stood in her world.

He wasn't sure what he expected when Shade opened her mouth to answer. Definitely not, "...Why are you with me if you still like her?"

His brow furrowed as he frowned, especially when she pulled away as if she couldn't take being touched by him. "What do you mean, princess?" It hurt quite a bit actually. "I said I kidding about the ex part. She was my teacher, that's all." That's how it should be between them: Mentor and student. The only feelings he should have for her are vengeance, and admiration for her sheer strength, skill, and ability to kill so damn gracefully. Or was that just in his own vision?

"I don't," he started quietly, "think of Lenah that way." He kept his voice steady, his face serious. He wasn't lying. Right now, his eyes were on Shade, and her only.

She didn't look like she believed him though. He took a step towards her, cautiously raising a hand to her cheek, giving her plenty of time to step back or swat his hand away or whatever. Not that either of those things would make him feel very good about himself. "Sorry, I should have...I shouldn't have brought it up." Man, when would he learn to stop letting his mouth run about all the wrong things?

Shade blushed softly at how his eyes were focused on her, that flutter starting up in her stomach again. She couldn't help how he excited her, even though it was a little embarrassing and inconvenient when she was upset with him or they were arguing. At least he wasn't trying to distract her by kissing her. Yet anyway.

She closed her eyes and leaned into his touch before shaking her head lightly. "I believe you. And I'm sorry I'm so insecure," she whispered, opening her eyes again and meeting his. Giving him a weak smile, she turned her head a little to press a gentle kiss to the heel of his hand.

She pulled her head away then and reached up to grab his hand, intertwining their fingers and looking down to study their hands and how well they fit together, kind of like how she and Kier were. Neither of them were perfect, but they complimented each other. "It's just... you kind of sounded like how you talk to me when you were talking about her and--" She blinked when he cut her off.
