- Wing: Andrew had been arguing with himself for a few days over what to do regarding his feelings for Trevor and the fact that the other man was still oblivious to them, but it had only reached verbally in the past hour or so (he was rather thankful that he was the only one in the house right now). Finally groaning in defeat since he just couldn't figure it out on his own, he grabbed his cell phone and dialed the most commonly called number he had - Halt's.
Ella: Halt was packing a few lunches for some of his runners when the all too familiar ringtone went off. He snapped up the phone immediately, answering by the fourth ring. "What's up Andrew? Everything okay at the house?"
Wing: "Yes. No. Fuck! I don't know!" he wailed, flopping face first onto the couch, managing to hold the phone to his ear the entire time.
Ella: "Uh, let's start simple. Has the house been burnt down yet?"
Wing: "No. The house is fine." The expansive eye roll that accompanied that was clear in his tone. "Why is that always the first thing you ask? It was only the one fire! And it was small and didn't damage anything!"
Ella: "Well I said I was starting simple sweetheart. And you never know, with three underage boys." He cleared his throat. "How are you physically? In one piece?"
Wing: 'Underage' he mouthed, looking confused. "Yeah, I'm not hurt. You do realize that Trevor's older than me and I'm twenty, right?" he asked with a laugh, rolling over onto his back.
Ella: "Shh. I like to pretend that I'm not thirty, remember?" There was a moment of silence as he packed a sandwich. "So you and the house are okay, physically. What about emotionally?"
Wing: He snorted lightly, already calmer just by talking to Halt. Which went right out the window again with his second question. There was a long pause as Andrew thought before he whispered, "I don't know."
Ella: He set down the knife he was using, turning his back to the counter. "Trevor's still oblivious huh?"
Wing: He sighed, hauling himself up to sit, his feet flat on the floor. "Yeah," he agreed softly. "I don't know what to do. I mean, it's not like I haven't tried to show my interest." He swallowed. "I don't know what to do."
Ella: Another beat of silence. "Have you thought about coming right out and telling him?"
Wing: "I'm worried about scaring him away. He's so... shy and reserved all the time. Plus, what if it's too soon?" He reached up to rub a hand over the back of his neck. "What if he says no? What if he tells me to get lost?"
Ella: "How long exactly have you been trying to put the moves on Trevor sweetheart?" Halt focused on one question at a time, knowing it would help Andrew from getting overwhelmed.
Wing: He huffed, leaning back and staring up at the ceiling as he thought. "I dunno. A bit over a month, not quite two. A little before his birthday, I made dinner. Found this recipe that used an apple glaze for it. I got him that tea and stuff for his birthday. Got him some chocolates, the ones that aren't sweet since he doesn't really like sweet things. Stuff like that. I'd have gotten him flowers, but I'm pretty sure he would have looked at me like I was insane then ended up giving them to Shade or Kota."
Ella: He snorted. "Kota likes flowers?"
Wing: He laughed and rolled his eyes. "No idea, but his girlfriend sure does. Just gotta make sure there's no thorns because of her medical condition." He pushed to his feet to move into the kitchen to get a glass of water.
Ella: "Well I think a month or two is enough time to be subtle. Just tell Trevor that you might be developing feelings for him and tell him that you're scared of hurting him or being hurt yourself. And that if anything happened to you I'd kill him."
Wing: " ‘Might be’? Halt I'm pretty sure that's more than 'might be' at this point. Besides, how the hell do I do that? 'Hey, Trevor, can we talk? It's nothing bad, or I don't think it's anything bad but you might. I don't know exactly what you think but I've been terrified to talk to you about this sooner because I'm worried that you'll get upset but I can't not talk about it any more. Oh, wait, sorry, I'm babbling. Anyway, what I wanted to talk to you about is that I need to tell you that I'm pretty sure that I'm love with you and that you haven't noticed. What do you say to that? Oh, by the way, I'm free Thursday night if you'd like to go out to eat,' " he said, pitching his voice a bit differently during his 'confession'. "Yeah, I'm sure that would go over wonderfully Halt." He sighed softly and leaned forward to rest an elbow on the counter, lifting that hand to run through his hair.
Ella: "Isn't that about what I did with Lis though?" he asked softly. "Well, I was a lot more overt I guess," he added, scratching at his chin.
Wing: "Lisa is also quite a bit different from Trevor," he mumbled dully.
Ella: He sighed. "Yes, they are different, but at some point sweetheart you got to start worrying about your own mental health. Torturing yourself like this will only make the moment worse when and if it finally comes, if I don't snatch you out of there myself first."
Wing: Andrew sighed as well. "I'll... I'll work on talking to him about it, okay? I've gotten so used to hiding it that I don't know how long it'll take me." He straightened, mustering up a light smile that carried through. "Thanks for talking with me. It helped order some stuff for me."
Ella: "Try being a little less subtle. Work up to it so at least his subconscious isn't surprised." Halt cleared his throat slightly, realizing it had suddenly tightened up. What was he doing, helping Andrew like this? The poor kid was lucky; at least he'd never experience the pain of giving someone up, he thought to himself. "I love you kiddo. Take it easy okay?"
Wing: His smile strengthened some. "I will. Love you too. Thanks again. I'll give you a call later in the week, okay?" he said softly.
Ella: "Of course. You know my phone is always on."
Wing: "Yeah, mine too. You have a good day. Tell Lisa I say hi."
Ella: "I will."
Wing: "Alright. Bye."
Ella: "Bye." He let Andrew click off first before hanging up, feeling heavy.
Wing: Andrew slipped his phone in his pocket and looked out the window for a moment before turning as he thought he heard something. "Hello?"
